CPAC Picks Unionized Hotel For Conference
Edited on Thu Feb-18-10 10:27 AM by Joanne98
The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), an annual congregation of archconservative activists and right-wing politicos, is beginning today in Washington D.C. thanks to a labor union.

The event, taking place at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel until this Sunday, is being run by unionized staff who will serve drinks and other amenities to those who are attending the convention.

“It’s been here for a very long time,” says one hotel worker, noting that the hotel has been unionized for years. Another server next to him dons a Unite Here Local 25 button on his uniform. The union represents around 7,000 workers in the hotel and food service industries in the Washington area.

This fact is curious, since many of the conference organizers at CPAC have made it their life’s work to bash organized labor rather than support it. For instance, there’s even a panel Friday dedicated to exposing “Big Labor’s Drive to Remake America,” according to a CPAC itinerary. Other pamphlets from the anti-union National “Right To Work” Foundation also assail the “evils” of unionized workplaces.

1. I think it's funny that they don't go out of their way to find a non-union hotel.

9. Republicon fatcats run the show
and are indeed lazy. The kool aid guzzling & tea-bagging proles who sop up the corpraganda they pump out know nothing. They just do what they are told.

3. bullshit headline.
unrec. it attempts to say the actual conference is being funded by union employees. its not. these are just staff who work at the location. they have to wait on whomever comes to their facility, even the cpac assholes.

bad attempt to mar union employees who work their asses off to ensure people of good pay and benefits.

5. The headline is from the original article
Considering the source, I think the title was a failed attempt at wit & irony rather than intentional union-smearing.

11. Great article - Love the Irony
I have no idea why anyone would un-rec this article. The irony is beautiful. I had no trouble understanding the headline.

13. Obviously they don't have the courage of their convictions
they probably will wave their little made in China American flags and have their impeach Obama bumper stickers printed at an anti-union shop.

It would be like a good progressive Democrat taking even 1 step inside a Walmart *spit*.

14. Welcome to DU!
And don't worry -- plenty of DUers will tell you why it's impossible for good progressive Democrats to STAY OUT of Walmarts. I know!
