Now That Isn't Very Nice Canada

Just a little Wednesday humor for your enjoyment. As you might have heard something pretty amazing happened in the Olympics Monday evening. The US beat the Canadian hockey team. Not only is Canada the host nation, hockey is their national sport. Plus folks that know stuff about hockey felt the Canadian team, made up of NHL players, might have been one of the best teams to ever take the ice.

Now often after a defeat or say a Super Bowl victory us Americans like to "riot" and turnover and burn cars. Well it would seem our friends to the North are a little more restrained. They just mock us with humor, that kind of cuts to the bone.

front of the line in the U.S. as well as recuperate at his Condo and then has the unmitigated gall to say he is going to submit his 'expenses' for reimbursement. I am sure Newfoundlanders, one of the poorest Provinces in Canada, will be happy to fork over tax dollars they can ill afford if he gets any of his costs reimbursed. Slime, pure slime, imo.

47. I don't think it was urgent, certainly that has not been the argument made...
by Williams. From what I read it was serious and his doctors recommended he have surgery but from what Williams, himself, said:

""It's my health and it's my choice." He also said because the Florida surgery was less invasive, his recovery time would be shorter."

He never indicates it was a decision based on urgency which, I suspect, if that was the issue he certainly would have highlighted it. His argument that the surgery was less invasive infers it could only have been done outside the U.S. and that has been proven not to be the case.

Again, slime, pure slime, imo.

It was no emergency. I don't blame him for having the less invasive procedure, but he could have had it in Canada and saved tossing the anti-health care propagandists a bone.

But hey, come swimsuit season he won't have a scar.

92. Pure propaganda to discredit Canadian healthcare. FACT: The procedure was developed in Canada.
Edited on Wed Feb-24-10 03:46 PM by snagglepuss
This is part of a concerted effort to derail Canada's public health care by those who want Canadian healthcare opened to to private healthcare providers. The so-called better procedure was developed by Canadian doctors and is available in Canada.

"Maybe you’re guessing now that the premier decided to travel to the famous hospital where one of the physicians who authored the article fixes hearts. That would make sense. But here’s the funny thing: the authors are Dr. Thierry Mesana of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and Dr. Subodh Verma of St. Michael’s Hospital at University of Toronto.

Apparently Ottawa and Toronto have somehow managed to emerge as leading centres for both the theory and practice of heart surgery—in particular, it seems, the operation Williams needed—despite the horrors of socialized medicine.

In case this leaves you fearing that the the premier might have received substandard care in the U.S., please don’t worry. I understand they have excellent physicians there. And that New England Journal of Medicine article is specifically meant to spread the word of the latest surgical techniques everywhere."

101. Proves nothing except that wealthy people will always find a way
to get the best health care.

More often than not, US health care is quality health care. That's not the issue. The issue is accessibility. Most of us can't get that quality health care unless we're well insured, or have very deep pockets.

instead of Brodeur, imo, given Brodeur was less than stellar in the previous overtime shootout game. If we do manage to win the games needed to get to the gold medal round, Luongo will most certainly be in the net and it will be a game to watch regardless who wins, again imo!

Even a bad few days. That's just the nature of the game. And they all know it's best to pull them at that point. If they're not seeing the lacrosse ball or the hockey puck no use pretending otherwise.

Cujo! That's a blast from the past! I'm an Avalanche fan so Patrick Roy is my favorite all time hockey goalie. Couldn't be anybody else for an Avs fan, after all.

61. That's a complicated question that has little to do with preferring the US over Canada.
It's a matter of the size of US vs. Canadian markets, the strength of the US vs. Canadian dollar, among other things.

67. Yeah, I guess US citizenship gets you around that.
That must be why so many have gotten it. For the one's employed on a visa, however, you'd better believe the provinces are still getting their share!

My husband's on a NAFTA visa (evil, I know!) and God knows he stills pays enough in taxes to Ontario even though he's only there a week out of every year at most!

Though it is true that Canadians make up a majority of NHL players.

There are a number of states with strong hockey traditions.

The Huffpo article pointed out Canada's team was made up of NHL'ers. I just pointed out that so was the U.S.'s. Oh, and asking where they came from was in response to the post I replied to. Another 'joke' about Canada's hockey.

Did YOU hear all the distractions whenever the Canadian ladies curlers were about to take a shot against one of the Scandinavian teams? GO USA. USA!! USA!! Just as they were ready to shoot. I don't even know if they had a team on the ice. If they did, they never showed footage of it. I guess negativism and partying breeds silliness, and we've had plenty of the negativism part, from every country in the world it seems, so don't feel too bad.

Really beautiful ones, inside and out. If you were a Canadian and had heard all the ignorant jibes from so many countries - including your own about ........ pretty much everything Canada has done for these Olympics, cheering when the opening ceremonies didn't go as planned, trying to disrupt curling games, all the sickening 'jokes' in the press - maybe the picture would be a little more understandable, though hurtful, I agree and not necessary. But nah ........ it's all knee-jerk and a good excuse to slam a whole country that fought all over message boards and in papers debunking the Canadian Health-care system myths meant to hurt your chances for change to help you out. Anything for a chance to paint a whole country, I guess. Go at it. It's informative to see some real feelings coming out.
