Amazon.com CEO Gets $1.28M Compensation

Updated: 9:36 p.m. ET April 27, 2007
SEATTLE - Amazon.com Inc. Chairman and Chief Executive Jeff Bezos received compensation the company valued at $1.28 million in 2006, according to an analysis of a regulatory filing made by the online retailer Friday.

Most of that compensation came from the value of security provided for Bezos, 43, who founded the Seattle-based company.

According to a federal Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Bezos was paid an $81,840 salary in 2006. He was granted no bonus and no stock or option awards, but the company valued Bezos' security services at $1.2 million.

Interesting because of all the executives we've all heard about that are making $20, 30, 40 million a year!

IMO, Amazon seems to be quite a successful company, and I admire this founder for not raping the company!

1. He simply doesn't need any more money.

Bezos is worth over four billion dollars.

3. I know that! I think it's interesting that he, as opposed to MANY other CEO's certainly have
all the money they need, but they still comand $17 million or more in compensation! I find it a good sign that Jeff isn't raping the Company!

4. Wouldn't it be nice if Big Oil execs would follow his lead.

But that sure as hell won't happen.

2. Salary is pretty meaningless to Bezos.

As the founder of Amazon, he's worth about a brazillion dollars, so a few million more here or there is pocket change. If you factored in the appreciation of his Amazon stock over the past year, his compensation is stratospheric. Still, it's nice to see someone whose income is linked to the increased value of the company they run, rather than the con artists who parachute in, fuck up the company, and then bail out with a billion dollar kiss goodbye.
