Internet giant Google will announce plans for a major data center at Mid-America Industrial Park near Pryor on Wednesday, park officials said.

The data center, or "server farm," would most likely support Google's array of Internet services. Similar facilities operated by the company typically employ about 200 people.

Sanders Mitchell, administrator of MidAmerica, confirmed Google is coming and will announce the new server farm Wednesday but declined to give any further information because of confidentiality agreements.

"I'll have to let the company do the talking, but we're extremely excited to have them here," he said.

1. google is fast becoming a corporate enemy of the people
the all knowing internet entity that spys on us and keeps records (for at least 2 years of everything you do on google) and shoves advertising and tracking cookies onto our computers (refer to its acquisition of doubleclick).

the old days of google being that brash anti-establishment interent upstart are long over and now google is becoming the best of the worst.

During negotiations in Caldwell County, local officials said Google threatened to leave with their plans.

"They made it very clear: If it didn't look like they'd get the commitment they wanted, they'd go somewhere else," Bill Stone, vice chairman of the Caldwell County Economic Development Commission, said in a recent interview with The Charlotte Observer.

Google negotiator Rhett Weiss said the company never threatened local officials with competition from South Carolina. But he acknowledged that state and local officials were told the company was considering a dozen sites in seven states.
