Monday, Congressman John Yarmuth, D-Louisville, described Bunning’s move as a “tragedy.”

“I’m embarrassed that a senator from Kentucky has put us, as a government, in that position,” Yarmuth said after delivering a speech at Bellarmine University.

“We have enough problems with credibility as to whether we can function on the behalf of the American people to have to put up with this.”

Yarmuth predicted the Senate “will figure out a way to get around him (Bunning)” to pass an extension soon. Yarmuth said he has not tried to talk Bunning out of his opposition.

“I gave up talking to Sen. Bunning a long time ago,” he said.
