Bunning Kills UI Extension for an Eleventh Time
By Mike Lillis 3/1/10 4:50 PM

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) just took to the chamber floor asking for unanimous consent to pass a temporary extension of unemployment insurance, COBRA benefits and a handful of additional funding provisions that expired yesterday.

You already know the outcome.

Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) continued his one-man blockade of the legislation, insisting that Democratic leaders come up with the $10 billion the proposal is estimated to cost.

“The debt that we have arrived at,” Bunning said, “it’s unsustainable.”

It marks the eleventh time since in less than a week that Bunning has blocked the bill.

1. must be nice for him
to go home to a warm house, have food to eat, access to healthcare, not worry about his bills - all at the expense of the tax payers. We're paying this f***er to deny others what he has.

2. Why is ONE senator allowed to have so much power?
And such a fucking asshole too.

Burn in hell, Bunning. It would be nice if the unemployed Repukes take notice of this, but they're probably too stupid and/or busy protesting abortion clinics to notice.

3. I have an idea.
Take the $10 billion from his state in the form of any government stimulus or any other money his state gets from the government! See what the moron says then!

4. Not only that, but he promised, "I'll be here" to object to any other unanimous-consent

request for an immediate Senate vote on the House-passed 30-day unemployment benefit extension.

Why don't the Democrats just keep this session going, in shifts, 24 hours a day until Bunning falls asleep, or has to go potty?

5. For the same reason they shut down the session last week just before midnight.
Democrats already felt bad enough at the time for having made Bunning miss the basketball game he wanted to watch. How mean can you get? Bunning is old, so Democrats should have just let him mail in his obstruction so that he wouldn't miss his naptime.

6. What is the method that Bunning mentioned that would end his objection?
He implied that the Dems won't use it. What is it?

7. He's now oh so concerned with having the cash to pay for
unemployment benefits. No such problems with war funding though.

Bunning blocked the measure because of “a dispute over how {the bill} should be funded,” leaving 400,000 Americans in limbo after the benefits expired at midnight on Sunday.

9. I would guess that forcing the a-hole to actually filibuster on the Senate floor might do it.

He obviously isn't worried about Senate Democrats doing that.
