Bunning continues filibuster; Republican assistance growing (Updated)
by: Chris Bowers

Mon Mar 01, 2010 at 17:49

Jim Bunning is continuing to filibuster legislation that would extend unemployment and COBRA benefits for 1.2 million people. The filibuster has now gone to 11:

Sen. Durbin asked for unanimous consent for the 11th time to extend unemployment benefits. #Bunning objected

Additionally, Senator Jon Kyl is now helping Bunning keep the filibuster going. On Saturday, David Dayen reported that Senators Corker and Sessions were also assisting Bunning.

In addition to ending unemployment and COBRA benefits for 1.2 million Americans, this filibuster has also resulted in "a 21 percent fee reduction to doctors seeing Medicare patients starting today."

Politically speaking, Bunning is not going to be hurt by this, as he is leaving the Senate. Further, Republicans, even the ones assisting Bunning, are not going to be hurt by this either, because no one friggin' understands Senate procedure. .......(more)

3. Seems Dem's arent worried. Kinda takes the pressure off them to actually get
something accomplished. Has the president stepped in to give his two cents?

4. This should be broadcast by each ane every democrat, liberal and honest GOP
radio show, cable, network and much as possible. That the republicans want to kill off the unemployed and the seniors by cutting their medicare. Also they want people not to be able to have the services provided by the rest of the things covered in this bill.

If the democrats had any spine each of them would call a press conference and let the GOP have it.

6. I have never seen such an
inept majority in my life. So millions suffer because of one heartless bastard and our leadership stands helplessly by asking him politely to please give a @*%#.
