President Obama is coming to Savannah, GA tomorrow.
I'm so excited. I probably won't see him, but I'll be looking.

I'm disappointed he isn't doing a town hall style meeting where a lot of people could listen to him and a few could ask questions.

Maybe next time.

2. The media sure didn't share much of his itinerary. Too bad
it's supposed to be rainy, too, so I guess I'll catch him on the news.

:hi:

4. I wouldn't be surprised if he visited a certain restaurant on Whitaker and Congress street.

His wife had a good time with the owner just before the election.

5. Obama lost GA by a mere 5%, really just 2.5% if that much switched sides.

And he took Chatham County 57-43%.

7. So far so good, but there was this....

Jamie Durden:
Jamie Durden here at the WTOC assignment desk. Our crews near Savannah Tech say a person in the crowd jumped the security line and tried to reach the President's motorcade. Officers chased him and tackled him. More info to come.

There's always at least one in a crowd. Hopefully it was a misguided adoring fan who wasn't dangerous.

The President landed shortly before noon Tuesday at Hunter Army Airfield. Waiting for him on the tarmac was Savannah mayor Otis Johnson, Georgia governor Sonny Perdue and others.

Obama will be making his way to Savannah Tech to talk with a group of invited guests about a new energy efficient rebate program.

Next, he'll be touring some local businesses. We have team coverage of this event and we'll have more information as it becomes available.

10. Lunch at Mrs. Wikes on W. Jones St?
Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 02:54 PM by aikoaiko
Mayeb. I thought it was going to Paula Deens. But locals are now saying Mrs Wilkes Boarding house which has much more authentic southern homestyle cooking.

edited to add:

Yep, Mrs. Wilkes.

SAVANNAH, Ga.—President Barack Obama surprised diners at Mrs. Wilkes’ Dining Room, 107 W. Jones St., in the heart of Savannah’s picturesque historic district.

Passersby were stopped along the brick sidewalk at each corner while the president entered. About 50 people packed the dining room, and all stood as Obama shook hands in the low-ceilinged room.

Ed and Carol Enciso of Chicago got to shake hands withthe president and she got a photo. She got a picture of Obama. “This is the most exciting thing!“ She said. Obama sat with six guests and Savannah Mayor Otis Johnsona, who sat to his left.

Fried chicken was piled on a plate in front of them, and as Obama chatted with a man from Charlotte, N.C., he spooned baked beans and ambrosia on his plate.

To the press, he said “I don’t want any lectures about my cholesterol. Don’t tell Michelle.“

He's still got an hour to go in Savannah. Where to next? I'd love to see him with a to-go cup on River Street.

11. "Don't tell Michelle" is taking on a little life of its own... video in link.

Mrs. Wilkes restaurant is a venerable eatery that serves authentic home style southern food for lunch only. It was once a boarding house, but now is only a lunch restaurant. It serves food family style. You wait on a short line and get seated with whomever is next in line at a 8 - 10 seat table. When Mrs. Wilkes was alive she would come out and say grace.

It's a favorite among locals and visitors.

Today is Tuesday so the President got the Tuesday menu.
