Jerry Brown to declare his candidacy for governor Tuesday
Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown will formally announce Tuesday that he is running for governor, a job he last held nearly three decades ago, according to a source close to his campaign.

Brown, 71, an Oakland Democrat who does not face any serious primary election opposition, is expected to make his announcement online. He served two terms as California's governor starting in the 1970s but is eligible to hold the office again because today's term limits were not in effect when he first occupied the Capitol.

Brown, an enigmatic political figure whose father, Pat Brown, also served two terms as governor, is seeking to regain the state's top job near the end of a long political career. He has won elections to the posts of secretary of state and Oakland mayor, besides his current job; waged three failed presidential runs and lost a bid for Senate. Brown has also served as the state Democratic Party chairman.

3. Far out. Is he still dating Linda Ronstadt?
Seriously, he gave Jimmy Carter a real run at the nomination in 1976 (am I dating myself here?).

"Gov. Moonbeam," indeed. Good guy, and good luck.

13. He gave Clinton a pretty good run as well.
Hopefully Californians will remember the good years when Brown was the two-term gov.

11. Going back to CA republican Governor Earl Warren in the 1940's - The Browns (Jerry & Dad)
Edited on Mon Mar-01-10 09:49 PM by GreenTea
are the only successful democrats to hold the office of governor in California....That's a long time of Republican governors in CA....Warren-12 years - Reagan-8 years - Deukmejian-8 years - Wilson-8 years - Schwarzenegger-8 years (after the republicans, media & Enron were able to trash & get rid of Gray Davis quickly).

Again, the only democrats (besides the tossed Davis) that California has had as governors since the 1940's have been the Browns, both serving two terms each as governor.

Another republican governor in California will be a nightmare!
