Body found in Haiti believed to be KC area doctor
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The family of a Kansas City area pediatrician missing in Haiti since the earthquake is getting some closure.

Dr. Frank Vaughters' sister, Lucy, says dental records have been used to tentatively identify a body found in the rubble of a Haitian hotel as her brother's. Lucy Vaughters says conclusive identification is pending an autopsy in Delaware.

The Kansas City Star reported that Dr. Vaughters was visiting Port-au-Prince to oversee a family-planning and children's health clinic he created there when the earthquake hit.

Vaughters was 63. During his career, he cared for needy children in Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo.

His family is planning a memorial service in April.

2. Sorry to read that we've lost an extraordinary man and a good doctor.
Haiti has very, very few physicians. Dr. Vaughter was doing something special there.

Thank you for telling us about him, demtenjeep. Our world is a better place because of his work.

4. I did not know him
but I heard about his status of missing Saturday by an old friend who was very close to him. She was, of course very upset. Today her mother told me that they had found him. He sounded like a wonderful, compassionate man.

RIP May he find the peace in death that he tried to bring to those who lived

5. Dr. Vaughters was my son's pediatrician.
We were very, very poor a couple of decades ago, and my son was one of those "needy children" cared for by Dr. Vaughters. Back then, I remember thinking so often that, even if we were wealthy and could choose whichever doctor we wished, we couldn't have found anyone better than Dr. Vaughters or his office partner.

RIP, Dr. V.
