One in four Germans wants microchip under skin: poll
HANOVER, Germany -- It sounds like something from a sci-fi film, but one in four Germans would be happy to have a microchip implanted in their body if they derived concrete benefits from it, a poll Monday showed.

The survey, by German IT industry lobby group BITKOM, was intended to show how the division between real life and the virtual world is increasingly coming down, one of the main themes of the CeBIT trade fair that kicks off Tuesday.

In all, 23 percent of around 1,000 respondents in the survey said they would be prepared to have a chip inserted under their skin "for certain benefits."

Around one in six (16 percent) said they would wear an implant to allow emergency services to rescue them more quickly in the event of a fire or accident.

11. Not at all... And it is ironic that we even are having this discussion in this country.
It seems like the last 8 years have been the time that we really began to notice how are rights have slipped away. I know that it began before that, but it really now seems much more noticeable.

12. My thoughts too! You can almost feel it in the air. Privacy rights are slipping
away in several directions, a slow invasion of privacy for the typical well intended reasons that generally go astray.

13. You ever see that news report in the US shortly after 9/11 of a woman getting her kids chipped?
Its on youtube somewhere but I wouldnt be surprised if a large number of Americans would volunteer to be marked.

15. Also There is that commercial for batteries
And the battery commercial brags that one of its devices that it can power is a Child Locator device. And you see a scene of a Woman who turns her back and cant see her kid so she digs her locater out of her purse and tracks down her kid whos just wandering around with a balloon.

16. I can certainly admit that there are advantages to doing this, but I just see
there being so much room for abuse. Having any and all kids have this inserted would certainly stop the nut jobs that kidnap children and end up abusing and killing them.

19. I'd be pretty fucking worried if one day they decided that all kids had to be chipped

6. What percentage of Americans are willing to have their very bodily fluids tested?
In order to gain "certain benefits"?

8. "for certain benefits."
I don't see that much of a benefit for the amount of intrusion.

10. In other news, 1 in 4 Americans...
...already believe they have a microchip implanted in them somewhere... they call them The Republican Base. Clinton did it, you know... well, his penis did anyway.

14. RFID chips will make it easy to round up certain groups of people for whatever reason.
Just scan a large crowd or an entire city, then lock onto the targets. The 'Final Solution' could not be made easier.

How 'bout dem apple strudels, Himmler und Heydrich?
