It just occurred to me that the Republicans know that Democrats do a better job... |
|
and are terrified of them as a result.
Why would one party try to shut down government? Philosophical differences? There have always been philosophical differences but it never caused one side to react in such an extreme manner before. The opposing side usually tries to get as many of their views into the bills as possible. They want people to see what they can do and get credit for it.
You would only shut everything down if you thought that the opposing side has productive ideas and you have none. It's a desperation move that indicates a deep insecurity in your own abilities and ideas.
After 8 years of Republican rule we all see what happened to the country. The Republicans must realize that implementing their policies has been a total disaster. They try to disown the Bush years by saying that Bush policies, not Republican ones, created the problems, but they know that's not true. They know that their ideas are crap but they can't admit it publicly.
The biggest fight is over health care which means they probably think that the health care overhaul will be a big success. They have admitted the system needs to be changed and know that whoever does this will become a hero. It's one of the few things left that Republicans might do if they get in power that would gain them some respect. They want this for themselves and not let the Democrats take the glory. That's why they try so hard to shut it down even with their own ideas included in the bill. They want health care to wait until they can take all the credit for it. If it is not passed and we get a Republican dominated government again, guess what the first thing will be on their agenda? Of course, they will take all the work the Democrats have done and present it as their own plan and then attack the Democrats as being too weak to pass such an obviously important bill for the American people.
The Republican extreme obstructionism is frustrating but overall it means that the Democrats are on the right track and the Republicans know it.

3. Rec. I think you are right. Look at how the GOPers "hated" the Stimulus bill, voted against it, |
|

yet pose for the publicity pics when the money comes in to finance projects in their states that are starting to employ people.
The economists-at least not the extreme RW economists-are seeing a start to recovery due to the stimulus, and the bills to extend UC benefits, provide for community college for unemployed and even lower taxes for the non-rich seem to finally be making a positive impression on the voters. When the HCR bill passes and some positive results become apparent, the GOP will be in the shit-and they KNOW it.
They are talking big about the election in November, but believe me they FEAR it and their fear is getting worse all the time. They set Obama up to fail, but he succeeded despite their efforts, and the voters are becoming very aware of it.

6. Well to hear con's tell it in 1964 they single handedly brought forth the Civil liberties |
|
bills and passed them into law while all the democrats fault them tooth and nail. And don't forget when saint Raygun rained manna down on the country and all of America got rich off trickle down economics.

11. In the past they have done it better than republicans. |
|
I don't think that's true any more. I'd put them both on the same level of governance.
