Jim Bunning's fiscal hardball jams GOP
Source: Politico

Fresh off last week’s high-profile White House summit, Republicans were eager to continue the health care debate they think they’ve been winning for months.

Then came Jim Bunning.

The Kentucky GOP senator’s unilateral decision to block an extension of federally funded unemployment benefits and other popular provisions has united Democrats and sent Republicans hiding from the political backlash.

Making matters worse for the GOP: Bunning is opposing the $10 billion aid package on the grounds that it isn’t paid for — effectively forcing his Republican colleagues to join him or risk undercutting their own efforts to make Democrats’ deficit spending a centerpiece of their 2010 campaign.

5. Kyl's feelings towards unemployment insurance mimics all Republicans and Bunning.
Unemployed people are just too lazy to work and jobless benefits encourage them to be slackers.

I hope the 10% of the population that is currently jobless remembers that come November.

7. A fucking "gift" you say?
And then laugh? My income drops to fucking ZERO and you think it's funny?

Really?

I hope something equally "funny" happens to you and yours.

10. Perspective is everything
Really, do you honestly believe that poster was laughing at your situation? Looking at the politics of the issue, not the more granular perspective but a much broader one, yeah, what the Rethugs are doing to themselves is funny. We Dems could never come up with a strategy as devastating as what these fools do to themselves. And fucking up the many struggling Americans who really need those UE bennies (two people in my immediate family among you) is a mighty blunder on their part. Easy to take delight in the price they are going to pay for this.

11. Perspective IS everything.
From my "perspective" I don't have time to wait for the effects of "as devastating as what these fools do to themselves" to happen. My fucking problems are immediate, as in RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. I need an option today, not in some indeterminate future. Besides, I heard all of the bullshit promises well over a year ago about how "help is on the way." Well, WHERE THE FUCK IS IT?

So fucking pardon me if I fail to laugh with you, Julie, I'm busy trying to figure out how to just survive.

That the "perspective" from my world and it sure as fuck ISN'T funny.

12. Hey, I feel for ya.
Just one short year ago I was finishing up a stint of homelessness (thankfully a friend took me in), no job, no hope, newly divorced...in other words, pretty much hit rock bottom. I've been in the world of hurt you are now in so I can relate to your perspective.

I do think the hue and cry will be too much and we will have an end to this fucking around with unemployment benefits very soon.

In the meantime you should remember this is a political discussion board and most of the topics are approached with a political perspective. Try not to take it personal and think no one cares about your personal situation.

13. Maybe it's time..
.. more people "took it personal," not less. Perhaps then something might happen beyond having "someone care about my situation." Caring won't keep a roof over my head, that will require action, not pretty speeches and false promises.

14. actually, I don't think they meant it like that. If it was going to happen,
and it was inevitable, it is a good thing that it blows up in their faces. I hope for the best for you and yours, DisgustedInMn. I hope things change swiftly. :(

8. Rock, meet Hard Place.
Now let's just squeeze the GOP in there...wait....what's this? Oh, I see they've already gone and gotten themselves in there. Very nicely done too!

Idiots.
