Many more pics at the link. #s 3 & 4--BEDROOMS, with windows-----yaas, that's where it ALL happens!1

And as for the living room chimney, why have chairs in front of it instead of the cuddly sofa----oh, wait, nevermind!1 And those drapes and those murals!1

Rush Limbaugh's Gaudy Fifth Avenue Penthouse Is Now For Sale

It looks like Rush Limbaugh is moving ahead with his threat to leave New York City. He's (finally!) put his tacky Fifth Avenue apartment up for sale. The cost of ridding NYC of Rush once and for all? $13.95 million.

Limbaugh promised that he'd sell his Manhattan apartment last March after the Paterson administration proposed raising taxes on New York residents who make more than $500,000 a year. (That wasn't the first time he'd made the threat. On the eve of the 2008 presidential election, Limbaugh said he was "seriously considering selling it," since "it may now become stupid to own any property there.")

Limbaugh was lying at the time, unfortunately. Months after making the "threat," he'd yet to actually put the Fifth Avenue apartment on the market.

But now he has! The 20th-floor penthouse at 1049 Fifth Avenue, which Limbaugh purchased in 1994 under the name RH Trust (Rush's middle name is Hudson) was officially listed two weeks ago for $13.95 million. And although he's described the place on his radio show as "fashionable," it's doubtful that will be the word that comes to mind when you look at the photos below, which show off moldings of "hand painted gold leaf" and his "hand painted ceilings and walls" by "renowned artist" Richard Smith.

2. Holy Shit
I've seen some gaudy shit in my time but damn, that place is fucking hideous. Painted ceiling tiles, is this place in ancient Rome or something? I wonder what room functions as the vomitorium? I'd need to visit it after a tour.

The furniture looks like something an 80 year old widow would own.

After all, his boys created the mess where property values have plunged. I hope he loses WAY more money than a small tax increase would have cost him. I assure you, he will still say he 'won'.

Funny, I was looking for the room he stores his ego in and then I realized — they're all ego rooms.

Bedroom mural: classy! Very Michelangelo meets Liberace meets Miami tee-shirt stand.

I'm guessing the library's books were likely purchased in bulk from The Strand--a buncha mail-order gilt-edged monstrosities and a full set of Durants' The Story of Civilization, no volume cracked open even once. At least there's no Britannica Great Books.

@Dickdogfood: Though it's possible one of them's the Physicians' Desk Reference.

I think the books in the library are all hollowed out and holding various prescriptions and liquors.

Where's the elevator filled with blood?

It's like a cheap, Disneyfied theme park version of Versailles got raped by a Pirates of the Caribbean backdrop from one of those old timey photo places. And then someone threw the worst of a Restoration Hardware catalogue in for fun. I bet he strolls around that place in his underwear, scratching his belly and smiling and feeling like a king. I bet he invites ladies back to his place for falafel and watches their faces to see how impressed they are that he lives so nonchalantly in this luxurious place, like he's just born to be fancy.

The bedspread in #3 is Viagra blue.

Pic 2 - I have a dream... of that chandelier over the Jacuzzi descending into the water in a hail of sparks and volts as he flops around like a mudskipper at low tide and the scent of bacon fills the air.

Who was his designer, Dame Edna?

I see England, I see France, I see Rush's crippling Oxycontin addiction and dangerous rumors about child sex tourism.

It's like a Sheraton threw up on Versailles.

Don't the ceilings seem really low?

@Richard Lawson: Yes they do, cause that's what happens when you add beams, trompe l'oeil, crazy, and chandeliers to regular old 8 foot ceilings.

In his defense, when you're hopped up on the prescription pills, you actually think you're at a Sandals Resort when you're in that ugly bedroom.

As an added bonus, if you search hard enough you can find a hidden stash of Oxycontin underneath one of the floorboards.

18. Although I'm not gay, I suspect OxyRush's pad
has a bit too much frou-frou for even the most outlandish of tastes. I can envision interior designers retching in disgust upon seeing those rooms.

Speaking of over-the-top...

I see that Liberace is mentioned a couple of times. Is there any celebrity who approached Liberace's flamboyance? I've never heard anyone described as 'he's like Liberace...only more so.' Liberace reached the apex of Liberace-osity and it's unlikely that he'll ever be surpassed.

19. Tacky is right
There are quite beautiful apartments in NYC in really nice areas for a lot less than that. I guess whoever buys it will be buying it because it's Rush's.

This one is in the same neighborhood, priced about the same, but is light and airy.

http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/721-Fifth-Avenue-Unit-61-L_New-York_NY_10022_1115425087

Here's one at half the price:

http://www.sothebyshomes.com/nyc/sales/0016890

A fantastic one for $7 million:

http://www.sothebyshomes.com/nyc/sales/0016574

And tons more, far nicer than Limbaugh's POS, or even Bernie Madoff's place.
