Jerry Brown is Back and I'm Beside Myself With Joy Today! Here's His Video Announcement!
This was the joyous message in my e-mail this morning with the link below to his short, and very good video announcement:

------------

Dear David,

Today, I am formally announcing my candidacy for the office of Governor of California, to deal head-on with the challenges facing this state I love. I have lived in California all my life, and I believe the obstacles in our path are substantial, but not insurmountable. If we have a Governor who will truly commit to dealing personally with the tough choices facing our state, and who will get in the trenches side by side with legislators, we can get California working again.

This campaign will not be easy. I will face an opponent with nearly unlimited personal resources to pour into television ads and attacks. I am counting on your support, and your hard work over the next nine months. I believe I have the experience, the understanding of State Government, and commitment required to move California forward. I look forward your help in this important campaign.

Sincerely,

Jerry Brown

$100 maximum donations. People of every stripe working their hearts out for Jerry as he slept on couches from state to state.

24. I had a different experience
We followed Hillary around Wisconsin, countering her lies about Jerry having drug parties in the Gov's mansion. I'll never forget or forgive what the Clintons did to a good man just to get a few more votes.

27. Yeah. ABC ran with the lies as they worked overtime to destroy him.
The very state troopers that worked Jerry's detail came out publicly and said it was all a pack of lies, but the orchestrated damage was done.

Anyone that knows Jerry knows he's as straight laced as it comes about those things. That's what was so sickening about the orchestrated smear. It happened to Howard Dean in 2004.

The media bias was clearly in Clinton's favour during the New York campaign.

33. They were.
He'd won Michigan and then Connecticut, if I still remember, and the big labor unions were all going to Brown and then the media and Wall Street came down on him. Jerry almost took down the edifice and all on $100 donations. Those were heady days.

I used to drink at the same bar that Jerry would visit at odd hours (when he was Governor). The conversations that I overheard were all about the benefit and advancement of the people.

I think that I will volunteer some hours.

10. Looks great for 71!
On my Brown for Governor thread I got a little flamed - said Brown not supporting single payer and has moved right.
I was a delegate for his presidential run. The "democratic" party threw his delegates to Clinton. They broke the rules. Under Robert's Rules of Order, I challenged the chair. He dismissed the delegation and ignored me.

23. 13% flat tax -iirc
The top would be paying more, in the end. Most would pay less, and revenue would increase. Art Laffer was no lib, but originated the plan.

Forbes;
"In 1996 he supported a flat tax of 17% on all personal and corporate earned income (unearned income such as capital gains, pensions, inheritance, and savings would be exempt.) However, he supported keeping the first $33,000 of income exempt. " =wikipedia

Most folks saw the corporate loopholes as unfair even back then, like 3/4 of us.

26. He also would have allowed for rent to be tax deductible as mortgage payments were.
There's a lot people don't know about what he proposed.

Wall Street went insane with hatred when he went there and tore up the tax code...a tax code where the dirty little secret is that the rich and powerful don't pay taxes.

Gosh I'm old.

I'm very impressed with the person who voted for Jerry's Dad in 1958. WOW!! Old Liberals Never Die!

My parents campaigned for a Hispanic person for Governor at the State Democratic Convention in 1958 -- Henry B. Gonzalez.

40. I loved Team Meg's vapid response, "This isn't about the past, its about the future" If they only...
Knew just how right their childish little fortune cookie missive truly is - it *is* about the future, just not the one Team Meg Whitman represents. Team Meg has already lost control their own message such as it was, simply because Jerry stood up

On taxes:

"In this time of recession when people are financially strapped, there'll be no new taxes unless you the people vote for them."

On government spending:

"We have to downsize state government from Sacramento and return decisions and authority to the cities, to the counties and to local schools."

On partisan gridlock:

"The partisanship is poisonous. Political posturing has replaced leadership. ... Today, the political breakdown in Sacramento is threatening jobs, our schools and the state's credit rating, which is the worst in the country."

On his experience:

"Our state is in serious trouble, and the next governor must have the preparation and the knowledge and the know-how to get California working again. That's what I offer."

"Some people say that if you've been around the process, you can't handle the job, that we need to go and find an outsider who knows virtually nothing about state government. Well, we tried that, and it doesn't work. We found that not knowing is not good."

He has an unshakable image as a liberal but if you look at some of the things he has advocated and done, he's not all that liberal. I think he is an honest man, but he's still a calculating politician.
