How can a guy with the mental acuity of a kumquat shut down congress? (re: Bunning)
Seriously, I have old, rusted dull knives that are sharper than Jim Bunning. There has always been rumors that he has some health issues that could be affecting his mental abilities but hell, we knew from Strom Thurmond that all one needs to be able to do is hit a bottom to vote - the rest you can have the staff do for you.

Suddenly this lackluster senator who barely knows what he is doing is pulling a political maneuver that is shutting down the government and cutting support for thousands of people with unemployment and COBRA. I don't get it - this guy barely knows what is happening in congress (unless it's baseball related) and suddenly he is fully aware that he can pull a stunt like this that is pretty much pissing off the entire country on both sides of the political spectrum.

Personally I smell a rat.

I suspect that this isn't Bunning pulling this stunt but the Republicans trying to make themselves out to be some sort of heroes. First, Bunning has absolutely nothing to lose. He's a lame duck that is gone in less than a year and once retired he is out of politics forever. So for him to pull a stunt like this - well it's no sweat off his back.

BUT.....what better way to make the republican party look like hero's than to have THEM stop this stunt with Bunning? Oooh look at us Republicans, it was us that made Jim Bunning stop, it was US that intervened and ended this impasse, it was US that restored these payments back to the working class poor.

There is no way Jim Bunning could have done a stunt like this on his own - I highly doubt he knows what day it is today.

2. After taking a look at his body language, mean face, and hostile attitude, he makes a convincing
patsy if he is one.

I think he is a lone stranger in this effort, with silent thumbs up support from his GOP peers.

6. I had a great uncle that went thru some mental degradation in his older age...
it wasn't Altizmers but mind you, the old coot wouldn't go see a doctor to get tested. But he was the meanest SOB you'd ever meet although he wasn't always like that.

4. At some point the founding fathers assumed if the American people deserved kumquats...
...they'd vote for them. And they did.

5. As dliffordu said, he's the tea party poster boy. So he's definitely nutty
enough to do this on his own. In the meantime we'll pass the permanent fix and the pukes will look as bas as they really are.

16. Seemed very "Trial Balloon" to me.....
Sooner or later the Republicans (w/ Democratic acquiescence) will do this for real. They needed to know who would squeal and how loudly.

18. Well, this time Reid also floated a "I'll do it next week" balloon....
Judging from the fact they got it done last night, I'm guessing Reid got an earful (from Governors as well as the unemployed) and decided to get it fixed ASAP.
