Fox’s 24 Casts “Markos” as a Terrorist
Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 05:53 PM by Ruby the Liberal
Bwahahaha!

The Fox wingnut soap opera 24, has cast a middle east suicide bombing terrorist character (with an American mother… who won't arouse suspicion) who curiously enough, bears a very strong physical and facial resemblance to DailyKos founder, Markos Moulitsas. The actor's name is Rami Malek.

Oh, and funny thing: The character's name is "Markos." Must be a coincidence, I reckon.

You can see the March 1st episode here once they post it. http://www.fox.com/24/

The character is introduced at about the 32 minute mark. He's answering a cell phone inside a truck, hovering over the fuel rods to be used in a dirty bomb. The bastid! Until then, you can see a still photo of Malek below, to the right of famous Interwebs terrorist himself.

9.  24 has had a very long and successful run
Lots of people in blue states like me watch it. It's a tv show for chrimeny sake. That the sadist element adopted the show as their own does not take away all the good episodes and good seasons ( there were a few of them at the beginning). Those who have watched from day one can confirm. If the producers even remotely used the real Markos to reflect the tv character, then it's toung in cheek because the show itself is very attuned to the changed political climate after Bush's departure. You have to watch it all the time to understand. That being said, the bad acting is almost comical now. I guess I watch out of habit. It should have ended last season. It would have been a fitting ending.........

50. I watch it too, because I understand the difference between fiction and reality.
Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 11:39 PM by Political Heretic
My rules for fiction do not include that the stories must always be about people who I like, or agree with, or who share my morals, though I like many works of fiction that do. They don't have to have a positive message, though I like many works of fiction that do. They don't have to share my politics, though I like many works of fiction that do.

They simply have to be interesting and entertaining to me in some way.

I have to reject the notion of some here that the kind of fiction you watch is "right" or "wrong." And it surprises me actually that so many here would be so quick to moralize.

Like it, don't like it. Watch it, don't watch it. My favorite character on Lost is Ben Linus... doesn't mean I want to be like him or think that's how the work should work. He's a sociopath....

....but he's awesome! Common... admit he's awesome. :D

Anyway, you get my point.

So, show all the episodes on one day, and leave all the other 360+ days free for quality programming.

Although, with FOX, "quality" is a subjective term.

Attacking him for someone else's words? You're okay with this? Can I blame you for the Holocaust by putting your name to Ahmadinejad's denialist words? No, of course not, so how is Markos deserving of scorn for some other blogger's inane opinion?

39. Like I said, read post #1
Not the OP, which is post #0. Post #1, in which it is stated 'Markos was the one to point this out'.

You are taking this way too seriously. A few people suggested Markos Moulitsas might be a bit self-obsessed or egotistical for making hay out of it (I have no opinion on this, btw, other than to doubt he takes it very seriously either). Comparing that to something like holocaust denial suggests you really need to get a sense of perspective. This entire thread constitutes celebrity fluff, and it's rather insulting to holocaust victims to suggest it bears any comparison or similarity.

40. And your post right there is EXACTLY why I chose that example.
You ignored my point, just as I knew you or someone else responding to my post would. I chose it to show an absurd manner of attacking someone's character by attributing someone else's words to that person AND to show that instead of responding to the point, the responder will deflect and avoid the point.

The only thing Markos did was point/link to someone else's blog entry and said, "Too funny." Clearly, he deserves all the vitriol being aimed at him over this.

So, you figure MM did not bring up the issue but just linked to a blog entry pointing out the 'similarity'...which you could have mentioned in the first place. Instead you chose not to mention this and ignored the explanation of why people might think he had originated the comparison, as implied by the content of post #1.

And in order to make your point, you drew comparisons between people 'attacking' MM and holocaust denial. I see 2 other people on the thread characterized him as a 'goober' and a 'jerk'. Well, that's mildly offensive, but not very serious, and it is certainly not in the same league as holocaust denial. Congratulations, you win the 'tasteless poster of the day' award because you were so eager to prove a point, despite not having presented an actual argument (about who posted what) until now.

52. And again you prove my point about missing the point.
Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 11:44 PM by DRoseDARs
The example I chose works thusly: Ahmadinejad's words are offensive. I have a dislike of you (I don't but for the sake of this example I do). Therefore, if I attribute Ahmadinejad's offesnsive words to YOU, they magically become your words not his, and therefore you earn the scorn for those words. This is the tactic people are using to malign Markos. That you repeatedly miss the point just makes this funny.

Edit: Forgot add in keeping with the now-shift rational for the Markos-hate, if you had tweeted a link to someone else's blog entry about Ahmadinejad's offensive words, that automatically means you're promoting his denialism.

95% of people watching "24" have no idea who Kos is, 97% have no idea that Kos is short for "Markos", and 99% have no idea what he looks like, so casting a "lookalike" for a role which doesn't involve a blogger would be utterly pointless.
