In my 68 years I've gone from independent (lower case 'i') to Democrat to Yella Dawg Democrat (look it up) to now...apolitical.
The 2000 election debacle/theft/rape-of-the-system and SCOTUS ruling drove me over the edge to Yella Dawg.
But now...now...the whole damn thing is broken. I don't need to give examples or go into any details. You all know what I'm talking about.
I can just no longer get all cranked up about any of what goes on in our federal government. Most of our elected representatives are bought and paid for by entities much more powerful than us lowly voters. They control the media and they control the elections$. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I will always go to the polls and vote AGAINST repugs. That's just a matter of conscience. But I won't be sending money to Dem candidates. My few bucks just don't matter. And I won't be sending emails/faxes/letters to my elected representatives. They're all repugs (I live in Alabama) and don't give a shit about my views anyway. They have the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and don't give a rat's ass about what I have to say.
Upside: This may actually lower my blood pressure. Downside: Total disillusionment with our political system the way it's run today. :-(

1. There are probably still ways to get involved at a local level and make a difference |
|
But I don't live in Alabama so I can't say for sure.
Good luck.

City council race. I helped get our very first female black elected. Happily she's doing a damn good job. Unhappily, the good ol' boys are working on a redistricting plan that would do away with her district this year. I won't give up on this one. :-)

I'm doing all I can this summer to get progressives elected. Last Sunday I went to a training and this Sunday I am getting voter data base training from the DNC.
If we give up now we have what we had during the Bush years. It feels good to be with people who feel we can make a difference.
