'Don't tell Michelle,' Obama says

(CNN) – After his first presidential physical found an elevated cholesterol level, sweet tea and fried chicken are probably not what the doctor ordered. But that didn't stop President Obama from indulging in a lunch of Southern cuisine Tuesday in Savannah, Georgia, according to a pool report.

The president joked with reporters to keep quiet about his meal at Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room, a local restaurant whose menu includes macaroni and cheese, collard greens, fried chicken and biscuits, among other traditional Southern dishes.

"I don't want any lectures about my cholesterol," he said, according to the pool report. "Don't tell Michelle."

Obama's Southern meal comes two days after his annual checkup and a doctor's recommendation that he alter his eating habits in order to help reduce an elevated "bad" cholesterol level.

1. I love that place for the guilty pleasure food. Also, I love that it doesn't matter who you are,
you stand in line and wait your turn like everyone else to get in and be seated.

9. Mrs. Wilkes' is a foretaste of paradise.
And if the food in heaven isn't exactly like Mrs. Wilkes' then I ain't going there.

11. Yes, you do!
I was impressed that though he was in the city for such a short time, he managed to get in a meal there. Despite what I read on DU daily, he's got some damn savvy advisers.

4. Good for the President!
He's probably eating at one of those sumptuous Southern buffet places where reporters are trying to give him guilt by association, even though it looks like what he's got is squash in his bowl in that picture.

He works his butt off for the country, only a silly nanny would scold him for having a meal that nourishes his spirit as well as his body. Eat hearty, President Obama!

(still waiting for my next trip down South for some real food in a restaurant...)

8. Sniff! That's the best offer I've had all day
Sweet potatoes or squash, whatever is on the buffet table is fine with me!

Don't pay too much attention to that state map next to my name, I only moved to NY three years ago from out West, and Southern food warms my soul!
