Good for Big Ed - he just prevented a "caller" from inserting a phony anecdote |
|
into his discussion about Mitt Romney's "free emergency care for all" regardless of income comment.
He said his *friend* went to the ER and was not charged anything(!!) He refused to provide any details when Ed called him on it so he (Ed) hung up on him, realizing that it was a set up call.
Many times I've heard righties call up liberal shows and try to toss a grenade on a specific argument with some phony supposedly personal crapola "story" that totally negates the point the host is trying to make and does so with great bombast/outrage.
I heard a woman do this a week ago on the Thom Hartmann show involving the ER and he let her get by with it without challenging her.

1. Yep, he challeneged a woman yesterday |
|
who said she knew some people on unemployment who were not looking for jobs because they make more on unemployment.
He asked the woman to arrange for those people to get in contact with Ed ---- he wants to interview them.
Probably, the woman who called does not know that you have to prove that you are looking for a job to continue to get unemployment.

3. Good point and it just happened again. This time involving an "illegal" |
|
person wherein the ER staffer was supposedly making up SS numbers for same so the person could get free care.
Once more Ed challenged the caller for the name of the hospital and promised his show will contact them to verify that is their "policy."
The caller said that he speaks Spanish from his military experience and (cleverly) was able to ferret out the secret dialogue regarding fraudulent SS number between the patient and the ER person. When the good citizen mentioned this to other hospital personnel they said that was what they always did with supposed illegal aliens to assure they would get free care.
Oh YA!!!!

7. I heard a guy call up the Stephanie Miller Show today. |
|
He was obviously a conservative and was asserting the bizarre right wing myth that “cutting taxes has always resulted in increased revenue”. I was disappointed that the folks there seemed to concede this fairy tale as fact. Instead of telling him that was a lie and asking him for data to back it up they were just staggering. "Oh yeah? Well, that may be true but still...!" It's not true. It is, in fact, provably false. He used the Reagan tax cuts as an example and they couldn't even point out that taxes had to be RAISED two years later to make up for the lost revenue. It kills me to not only hear this tripe repeated, but not even challenged.
