which would be significant earthquakes on their own.

There has been controversy because no tsunami warnings were issued for coastal areas after last Saturday's 8.8 MEGAquake.

Latest Reports say people have one hour (as write this) to get away from the coast near the city of Concepcion.

10. They hardly had time to warn anyone
People were shaken awake by the earthquake and barely staggering around to check the damage when the waves hit. They wouldn't have had time to head for high ground.

11. CNN crew is evacuating to higher ground, so guess they'll
be reporting after they get relocated.

Did you see the pictures of the coastal areas that were destroyed in the first tsunami? Nothing left.

My friend's SIL is missing. She lives in another part of Chile, but was vacationing in one of the beach towns. They haven't heard from her since the quake hit. My friend had been to several of the towns that were destroyed, said the destruction is unbelievable. Sad.

15. Hope your friends SIL is safe

Yes, the coastal areas near Concepcion and Talcahuano were hit very hard, first by the quake and then the tsunami.

Do you know what part of Chile she was in? We are in contact with family down there and maybe can find information on whether the area was affected.

The only foreign casualty that I have seen so far was a man from Sweden who was on vacation in one of the coastal areas hit by the tsunami.

9. Tsnami alert has been cancelled

Was just on the phone with a family member in Santiago and TV just announced the tsunami warning had been lifted.

The 6 point "aftershock" was centered near the hard-hit city of Concepcion.

Nerves are really jangled because of the numerous aftershocks.
