President Obama just sent me an email so can I go visit him @ the W.H.? |
|
He knows my name and everything so can I bring this email up to one of the guard houses @ the White House and go in for a chat or would that be a little pushy? Maybe I should just go to Camp David so we can spend more time together and things are more relaxed. I kinda think Camp David might be better because that way I could bring my black lab to play w/ Obama's dog Bo.
tom --
Last Thursday's first-of-its-kind summit capped off a debate that has lasted nearly a year. Every idea has now been put on the table. Every argument has been made. Both parties agree that the status quo is unacceptable and gets more dire each day. Today, I want to state as clearly and forcefully as I know how: Now is the time to make a decision about the future of health care in America.
The final proposal I've put forward draws on the best ideas from all sides, including several put forward by Republicans at last week's summit. It will put Americans in charge of their own health care, ensuring that neither government nor insurance company bureaucrats can ration, deny, or put out of financial reach the care our families need and deserve.
I strongly believe that Congress now owes the American people a final vote on health care reform. Reform has already passed the House with bipartisan support and the Senate with a super-majority of sixty votes. Now it deserves the same kind of up-or-down vote that has been routinely used and has passed such landmark measures as welfare reform and both Bush tax cuts.
snip
I look forward to signing this historic reform into law. And when I do, it will be because your organizing played an essential role in making change possible.
Thank you,
President Barack Obama
********* BTW to any Freepers, Trolls, Oxy filled fat asses, or Fox News people this email means that HCR is gonna pass and become law.

Mr. I listen to all ideas, wouldn't even allow that idea to be presented. And now he doesn't even fight for a watered down PO. Why not? it isn't as if the GOP are gonna vote for this anyway.it appears stagecraft and appearances are more importan then the American people and genuine access to health care for ALL.

7. Because the US political system doesn't work that way and you know it |
|
Reforms have always come in dribs and drabs, building on each other. Not once has there been any kind of sweeping reform in this country, it's always a little bit here, a little bit there.
it's a very cautious, conservative method, but all told, it's not a bad process - nothing's worse than sweeping change that has unforseen problems. A piecemeal application allows you to see how each part functions on its own and do fine-tuning before adding the next part... At least in theory.
In the actual system, we have the useless Republicans and the clueless Democrats, neither of whom seem capable of actually pulling that sort of application off.

11. "Mr. I listen to all ideas" |
|
 -- love it!
But I do agree with Chulanowa -- changes sometimes must come in little steps. I would think at this point Single Payer would raise such an outcry from the Republicans that Dems would be afraid to vote for it lest it affect their re-election chances. Yeah. Politics. It sucks but it's the reality.
I'm actually even surprised there was such support for PO in the letter to Reid, and that's encouraging.
And I keep hanging (grasping?) on to what Kennedy said -- first get a bill passed, then we'll work on fixing it.
So at this point, I'm cautiously optimistic that this is just a good FIRST step.
