Did you work in the last election to help...
Any senators or representatives get elected? I did some phone-banking for Claire McCaskell in the last election. And I've given money to others over the years.

See, I'm in a very red district in a very red state. I can't do much about getting Democrats elected to office here (though not for lack of working on it -- canvassing neighborhoods, giving money, phone-banking, working the polls, etc).

So one of my satisfaction outlets is to help candidates get elected in parts of the country where these kinds of things can happen. Hotly contested districts and states where maybe they have a chance.

I was feeling a little blue today about this whole public option thing. I know I won't get anywhere with my two Republican senators (although I have contacted them anyway). Then I remembered my work for McCaskell and thought, what the heck.

So if you've worked or donated money to a candidate that is not your direct representative, now would be the time to contact them and tell them how you feel.

6. Not necessarily...
I think you have to also call and write. I once heard that they consider letters to count for something like 1,000 people. That's because for every one person who actually takes the time to write, there are another thousand lazy slobs who r just interested in who got voted off the latest ep of Survivor.
