Major Karmic event hits one of my MIL's LDS neighbors
She is a left leaning, although conservative in values, her late husband worked as a union man in Chicago and although they voted for Reagan (many did, unfortunately), she is mostly left leaning politically, as she knows what she owes to the unions (she is still under their health insurance).

One of her Prop 8 LDS neighbors one day challenged her support for Obama and said the whole economic collapse was because "of the black people buying houses they cannot afford since, as you know, these people are lazy and don't work hard and therefore don't have the money for houses".

Well, today I learned that this same neighbor is walking away from his house, which he can't afford anymore.

He also proudly announced he would "trash it" before he leaves.

Karma is so sweet.

2. For those who don't -- Mormons. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. nt

5. Yep - I know.
I was also trying to figure out what the Mormon/LDS reference adds to the story. It seems like an unnecessary insult to a whole class of people.

I am not directing this question to you and hope the OP will respond to the question.

10. Oh -- I meant the clarification just to those who don't know, I assumed you
did - posted in the wrong place.

And I didn't quite understand the reference either, except maybe the rep they have for being racist.

12. I think it had to do with heavy LDS funding of Prop 8
But that's just my guess.

6. All the LDSs I know are desperately Republican
There may be a small proportion of Dems among them but each time I talked politics with a Mormon, it always ended like this:

"You are making a good case and you changed my view on a few things but WE vote Republican".

And when asked to try watching some other news like MSNBC (as I do watch Fox from times to times) they tell me: "WE watch Fox News".

Meaning that LDS folks vote for who they're told to vote, like mindless pitiful drones.

If these people are supposed to end up being gods themselves, they're going to be the most boring monotonous gods.

This explain the incredible stupidity of what comes out of Romney and Beck's mouth.

7. My own LDS neighbors are losing their house as well
He hates me for being French, I swear.

His wife is nice but I am glad he's getting screwed as well.

8. Thanks for your response.
I am actually a little surprised that a Mormon might be losing their home. The church (or at least they used to) makes mortgage loans.

16. They do. But only for a while.
They tithe, and the church will provide in case of job loss or hardship, but only for a while.

3. I'm guessing he'll find some way to blame those black people. If THEY hadn't bought
houses they couldn't afford, then he wouldn't have been in the situation he was. It's never the fault of better-than-thous.

4. Your MIL's probably too nice to snark at his bad fortune by asking just how "lazy" he was himself...
... to deserve being homeless.

I'm not sure if I'd be that nice.

9. By his logic,
he must have at least one drop of black blood mixed in with the "trash".

11. And he's planning on trashing the house . . . why?
So that evil black people who caused his misfortune can't enjoy their ill-gotten gains?

:wtf:

15. Why can't he afford his house anymore? Did he say the reason?
Edited on Wed Mar-03-10 06:35 PM by 4lbs
Is it because his bank/lender put him on a mortgage with balloon payments?

If so, then is that lender's CEO white or black? Was the loan officer white or black? Did he even read the agreement to understand that at any time his mortgage payment could double on a whim?

Is it because he lost his job?

If so, is the company's President or CEO white or black?

Is it because his savings/retirement/pension plan was wiped out because of financial shenanigans?

If so, then who were the people that instituted those misdealings? Were they white or black?

The whole economic and financial collapse began in 2000 and came to a full head in 2008.

Who were the speculators looking to get rich by buying multiple houses for $250K each and resell them 6 months later for $300K or $350K, driving up the price of all houses in the process? Were the vast majority white or black?

Blaming black people (and minorities in general) for his misfortune is just a simple way for that guy to avoid looking in the mirror for the reason he's losing his home.
