Gay couples line up for marriage licences in US capital
http://rawstory.com/news/afp/Gay_couples_line_up_for_marriage_li_03032010.html

Scores of gay and lesbian couples packed a courthouse here Wednesday to apply for marriage licences hours after the US Supreme Court threw out a last-minute petition to block a law allowing same-sex marriage in the US capital.

"I'm proud that our nation's capital has recognized us as human beings who deserve the same rights as everyone else," said Michael McBride, 48, as he waited in a line that stretched down a long corridor inside the DC Superior Court building to apply for a license to wed his partner of 18 years.

1. The word is "capitol" - Congratulations to the couples!
Shame on the writer.

3. Actually, no, it's not
Capitol is the building, capital is the city. And since they got married at the courthouse, not the U.S. Capitol, the reporter is in the clear.

4. Perhaps a freedom pilgrimage to DC for gay couples will become common.
A trip to the capital and getting married.

Glad to see that my GLBT friends in the District can finally wed. We'll even recognize your marriage here in Maryland.

6. This could be big for swinging some opinions in the black community.
