"New" RW Meme: "both sides"
Note how when something, anything, can be cast in a negative light towards the Republican Party/Individuals/Powerpoint Presentations, THE FIRST THING OUT OF RETHUG APOLOGISTS' MOUTHS IS...

"Both sides are guilty of..."

The first thing!

If Senator Imhofe dropped his drawers and took a dump on the lectern on the Senate floor, Joe Scarborough would give that manic laugh, talk about 'frat pranks' when he went to whichever school, and then say, both sides are historically guilty of taking dumps, whether real or figurative, in the Senate. Remember Senator Gene McCarthy's verbal dump on President Johnson...a President in his own Party!? HA HA HA!"

(Mika swoons at his manliness...)

1. In this particular case, it happens to be true
because both sides ARE culpable, because both sides were in power when the crimes were committed.

The difference is if the tea baggers candidate gets into office, the tea baggers will dematerialize, but the crimes will still continue.

5. I respectfully disagree...
Crimes are always committed whomever is in power...my contention is that when Bush was President or whatever he was, that the "both sides" phrase was never used when a Dem was 'accused' of anything at all whatsoever.

It's a technique of deflecting culpability in the incident being discussed at the time...

7. I agree that it's a tactic adopted by the tea baggers
but it's easily dispensed in that context by simply citing the your thesis.

And this is something that pisses me off about the MSM and their lover affair with tea baggers.

We were plenty pissed off during the Bush years, and we were told to sit down and STFU.

9. Some crimes are committed by omission.
There are plenty of Dem legislators who went dumb when they needed to speak, who did not cast votes when they were needed, or acquiesced.

There is plenty of blame to go around.

13. that's not the point of my post...
the point is, that the criticism of republicans is ALWAYS deflected towards the Dems, the criticism of the Dems stays with the Dems...

4. Yes, and it isn't new...
...it especially bothered me back during the Bush administration with the Abramoff scandal. One Democratic problem is the equivalent of like 15 Republican problems.

8. It's Also Known As Plausible Deniability...
Whenever I hear a rushpublican use that line it's almost always in regards to some dirty trick they're trying to pull that's been uncovered and this is their knee-jerk excuse. It's used like a five year old whose been caught and it's the equivelent to "they do it, too"...even if it's not true, it's just who and what they are.

A major part of the GOOP gameplan these days is to try to confuse and distort...make people think that all the problems we're facing are all of President Obama's doing...or because of Democratic control of the House and/or Senate. When I see people calling what's going on in Iraq/Afghanistan as "Obama's war" or that the problems with the economy is "Obama's economy", we know this strategy is working...

That's what happens when corruption, complicity and cowardice blurs the contrast between the parties.

12. I had noticed this especially by TV Media. It sounds as if they must
be apologetic to RW . They cannot say anything derogatory
about the Right unless in the same breath they criticize
the left. It has been especially noticeable at CNN.

Another thing that is remarkable. You would think the GOP
is in charge. When they report anything about Health Care,
it always begins , OH, the Republicans.........

They could hardly finish their Sentence regarding Obams's
taking a stand on HCIR before "The Republicans......as if
the only people in the world who matter are Republicans.
As if to encourage the Republicans...This is going to be
the biggest fight.....

Yes, it is clear. Never criticize the Right unless you
say the Left is guilty of the same. In other words neutralize
anything negaive said about the Right. and Repeat the RW
Talking Points.

And watch your Ratings go into toilet.

15. True, it has occurred to the RW that they *do* have skin in the game...just someone else's...
They know they have to admit something or they'll look like the intransigent, emotionally brittle usurpers that they are - but we're not splitting Solomon's Baby here right down the middle. If there ever were a matter that prayed for comparative-negligence it is this one. And with that being the case, republicans are far & away the greater contributors to the ill, sick-minded state of America today: her politic, her republic, her Democracy and the civility of her citizenry; far & away/no contest

16. That's the standard fall-back line around here.
It seems that whenever I get into a discussion with someone who supports or has supported republicans they inevitably end their argument with "well, the democrats are just as bad".

I even had one elderly "lady" try to tell me that clinton's penis did more damage to the country than the bush crusades.

I don't think she really believed that but like many conservatives she'd rather sound stupid than to concede ANY argument to a democrat.

21. It's the last refuge of the person losing the argument
I hear it all the time. When they have to concede defeat because you come armed with facts they just shrug you off with their 'both sides do it' defense. You can see the light of interest go right out of their eyes and they'll invariably suddenly have to go, or have work to do, or anything just to get away. And this is when you're being mellow about it.
