'Sovereign Citizens' Claim Immunity From IN, Federal Law
Edited on Thu Mar-04-10 08:57 AM by One Voice
Holy crap!

INDIANAPOLIS -- Fed up and fired up, an increasing number of Indiana residents who have lost confidence in the government are going to extreme measures to claim they are "sovereign citizens."

By doing so, residents contend that they no longer have to pay taxes, claiming their homes as embassies and using identification cards that show them as diplomats, 6News' Rafael Sanchez reported.

Moore and others said they draw their beliefs from the Bible and U.S. Constitution. Moore said all that has to be done to be exempt from U.S. laws is to file documents available online with the Secretary of State.

1. Then they need to find their own "Sovereign" country.
Are there any unclaimed islands left?

2. They no longer drive on the roads, drink water from the tap
can't use FDA approved drugs, and can't fly on FAA controlled aircraft. Good luck with that.

16. I'm wondering if they are still going to pay the water and sewage bill?
If they are not then it will be easy to shut that off.

Are they going to continue paying property taxes because that is in support of the government. Otherwise, they stand a good chance of losing their home.

26. Wouldn't they need a visa for that? They can't vote either. Reminds me of Family Guy.
Either you are a participating & responsible American citizen or you are not.

If you're not, then don't step on the public sidewalks, lest you be jailed for illegal immigration.

Reminds me of the E. Peterbus Unum episode of Family Guy.

http://www.tv.com/family-guy/e.-peterbus-unum/episode/25465/summary.html

The town zoning laws won't allow Peter to build a pool in his yard. When he tries to get a permit, he discovers that his property is actually not part of Quahog, and therefore not part of the United States. Armed with this new information, Peter makes his land his own country, calling it Petoria. When Peter gets no respect in the United Nation, he decides to invade Joe's pool, which brings the U.S. Army to his border. The Griffins can only survive so long without water, electricity, heat, or access to the United States, and finally, Lois and the kids leave President Peter, along with Brian, to his third-world country. Peter finally repatriates only a week after seceding.

8. There have been 'sovereign citizen' groups around for decades. They're just more extremist
organizations. There have been a few nasty ones watched by the SPLC.

http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-report/browse-all-issues/2009/spring/return-of-the-sovereigns

"On Jan. 11, 2007, FBI Director Robert Mueller sounded a similar note in testimony to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. "The militia/sovereign citizen movement," he said, "continues to present a threat to law enforcement and members of the judiciary. Members of these groups will continue to intimidate and sometimes threaten judges, prosecutors, and other officers of the court."

I certainly hope these ambassadors and their embassies aren't depending on any of these taxpayer-funded services.

Shouldn't they be rounded up and deported like the illegal immigrants they rail against so much?

15. So they are using the US Constitution to proclaim their sovereignty from the US?
Because the government they seek sovereignty from gives them the right (through that country's Constitution) to do so? That's their argument?

31. Separatist native Hawaiians have been doing this for years
for example, they won't pay traffic tickets because the counties (divisions of the State of Hawai'i) aren't legal, etc. etc.

(They represent only a tiny fraction of native Hawaiians, who number about a quarter of a million statewide.)
