Why the anti-incumbent movement will fail |
|
CNN has been pushing the idea that there is an anti-incumbent movement in this country. (Sort of true) Howard Dean claims that the movement will effect the Repubs as much as the Democrats. (Sort of true)
I think the movement will go nowhere. Sure, people hate incumbents who they blame the problems on, but, what they really hate is other people's incumbents. The average voters (for the most part) like their elected officials. That's why they always get elected. They feel the problems are with other district and State's elected officials. They may be disgruntled, but since they do not vote in those other districts or States, their unhappiness will play no role in the election.
We will do fine in the next election and the one after that.

2. That's the conventional wisdom.. |
|
... but eventually I believe people are going to realize that since we cannot get term limits and we cannot get any meaningful campaign finance reform, anti-incumbency is all we have.
What better way to break the grip the bankers and oilmen have over our government? If you know you are going to serve one term you might not be as interested in carrying their water.

6. The anti-incumbent movement will fail |

because they are not the ones controlling the voting machines and the final ballot counts. Democratic elections are a thing of the past in the US thanks to diebold,etc...

7. Repubs will vote in lockstep as always. |
|
An anti-incumbent vote would probably hurt Dems to a greater extent if it were to happen.

Like the president politicians should be limited to 2 terms also lobbying should become a felony punishable by 5 years minimum.
