In Alaska where glaciers are melting at a phenomenal rate
Edited on Thu Mar-04-10 11:38 AM by Winterblues
Land is actually raising. The water is less and there is more shoreline. I have heard a theory that the earth is sort of springing up from the loss of the weight of the glaciers. I don't buy that one but there must be an explanation. In my life time I have noticed almost a foot of difference. any experts out there or any other good theories?

It would stand to reason that where the preponderance of glaciers were, that would be where the land would be rising the most. That doesn't appear to be the case. It just doesn't make sense to me that land two hundred miles away from any glaciers would rise more than land within ten miles of receding glaciers, and that is what is happening. Also there are places where glaciers are actually growing and advancing but the land near is still rising.
