Washington Times: Lawmakers blamed for gay marriage law
Lawmakers blamed for gay marriage law

By Mark Stricherz SPECIAL TO THE WASHINGTON TIMES

As gay couples applied for marriage licenses in the nation's capital Wednesday, congressional Republicans came under fire, including from their own ranks, for not doing more to block implementation of the District's same-sex marriage law.

Two things are remarkable about this story. First, it was on one of the inside pages. The story about the couples applying for marriage licenses was first-page news. Second, the Washington Times now prints the phrase "same-sex marriage" without batting an eye. Not long ago, the Times put the word "marriage" in quotes when referring to one involving same-sex partners. Also, it referred to such marriages as "homosexual 'marriages'." It wasn't until John Solomon became the editor that the Washington Times started calling same-sex marriages "same-sex marriages." Now John Solomon is gone, but the change he began lives on.
