SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―

Sources tell CBS13 a state senator from Southern California was arrested for allegedly driving drunk after leaving Faces, a gay nightclub in midtown Sacramento, early Wednesday morning.

The California Highway Patrol pulled over Senator Roy Ashburn at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday after an officer noticed a black Chevy Tahoe swerving at 13th and L Streets.

When the officer stopped the state-issued vehicle, the driver identified himself as Senator Ashburn. He was arrested without incident and charged with two misdemeanors: driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol level higher than .08% or higher.

A male passenger, who was not identified as a lawmaker, was also in the car but was not detained.

UPDATE TO ADD:
Ashburn who has been a loud opponent of LGBT rights and has organized and hosted anti-gay marriage rallies for the Traditional Values Coalition and also has a 100% rating from the anti-gay Capitol Resource Family Impact group for voting against every LGBT rights bill during his tenure, was arrested for the DUI yesterday after leaving Faces, a popular Sacramento gay bar!

49. Anyone who thinks being gay is a "choice" ...
Is someone who thinks everyone has the same feelings toward the same sex and has to make the determined choice to turn away from them.

He was working on a really big "Christ, was I drunk last night" wasn't he?

4. Sen. Roy Ashburn "deeply sorry" after DUI arrest
The last year of Roy Ashburn’s state Senate career was marred early Wednesday when he was arrested by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of driving drunk near the Capitol in downtown Sacramento.

Ashburn, R-Bakersfield, issued a statement taking full responsibility and apologizing to his family, constituents, friends and Senate colleagues.

“I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgment,” said Ashburn, who through a spokesman declined to be interviewed. “I accept complete responsibility for my conduct and am prepared to accept the consequences for what I did.”

The veteran Kern County lawmaker was spotted weaving at about 2 a.m. Wednesday and was pulled over, said Sgt. Rick Campbell of the CHP in Sacramento.

7. They are so invested in their corrupt ideology
that it trumps everything that was ever decent, honorable and good in their lives. When you sell your soul to this ideology, this is what the end result is...there is nothing in their world except but the acquisition and maintenance of power at whatever cost. In the DSM IV there is a category of personality disorder formerly called sociopath. This has gone way beyond hypocrisy.

24. Because, "It Pay$$$$$$$$$$" (themselves & their acquaintance).
It's a system where "the more material money can buy" trumps everything else.

Al Capone took it to the extreme, but even his 'mafia ideology' didn't kill as many as the 'right-wing ideology' does (and will continue to do).

11. Asburn had another man in the car with him:
Campbell said the black Chevrolet Tahoe Ashburn was driving was a state car. He said an adult male was also in the vehicle but since he was not arrested, the CHP wouldn’t release much information about him.

Assholes like Asburn really burn me. Anti-gay on anything and everything he can touch -- except his personal life. Seems to me that he probably had someone with him that he picked up in the gay bar. Like I could care less except for his totally bullshit conduct.

31. That would mean that most of the Prop.8 voters in CA...
...and most of those who voter for similar measures in other states are actually gay.

While your idea is probably true some of the time, I have to think that most homophobes are so because they are not gay, can't imagine what it is like to be gay and have been taught by Christianity that gays are evil and deserve to suffer.

51. I see. Well it seems clear that some of these crusaders...
...fall into that group. I don't know if their own homosexuality is causing them to be so hateful and that they are living in denial or if they are simply so corrupt that they can stand in front of the country and knowingly lie their asses off for political gain. Still, I have no reason to think Falwell or Robertson are gay. I think they just know there is money to be made in pandering to the irrational fear of The Gay.

35. Not unexpected....
I come from Ashburn’s neck of the woods (got out as soon as I could), and have actually spent a little time with him. In fact, he is a very good friend to one of my close (female and elderly) family members. A few years ago, I heard a rumor that his wife left him because she caught him having sex with another man. (Or, maybe she just discovered the affair, and didn’t actually walk in on them…) My family member is very conservative and was kind of in denial about that rumor, but it made sense to me.

I feel compelled to add that Ashburn has been very sweet and supportive to this family member (over a long period of time), really going out of his way with extremely kind and thoughtful acts. I understand that his actual positions/votes have often been quite harmful (and I don’t excuse them- and his hypocrisy- in any way), but I also can’t help but feel sorry for a guy who must have had so much self-loathing, and must have been so conflicted (living in the closet for so many decades), all the while representing (too well) such a conservative district. My family member loves the guy, and will definitely stand by him, but I doubt that reaction will be universal.

He likes the DADT crowd!

73. I seem to remember rumors about Kasich years ago
This was when he was first in Congress.. long before he became a FAUX noise personality. I think he was shacking up with an "assistant" or whatever. One of my friends actually nicknamed him "Closet Kas(e)ich"

70. God! Is there such a thing as a Republican that's not a closeted homosexual?
Jeez.

71. Republican - The party of the self-loathing.
Homophobia and sexual insecurity seem to be 100% linked.

76. I wish they would have ran those "To Catch a Predator" stings
in DC for about a year before they ever showed any on TV. They may have made a pretty good haul. Congressmen, staffers, lobbyists and media personalities. It would have been interesting.

77. So what does"preditor" have to do with "gay"? The guy's a self loathing hypocrite...
I'm "incurably heterosexual" and I know there's a BIG difference. 95% of child molestation is done by "straight" men.

78. I know. I just thought that "Predator" would have nailed some
high profile people in DC. I would have been willing to bet more Republicans than Democrats.

Was there to service him. Just to see what it's like, of course. Research!
