I’m not sure about how I feel about this whole vote-as-a-block thing.
On the one hand we bitch about the Republicans who vote lock-step because it doesn’t take any personal thought or consideration for anything but party.
On the other hand we bitch about the Democrats who don’t vote on party lines because or whatever.
If Dems all voted lock-step would it be any better than Repubs who vote lock-step?
If neither party voted that way we could negotiate. If both parties voted that way we could just say screw it and go our own way.
When one party does and one doesn’t therein lies a problem for one that doesn’t.

1. Its not the lockstep thats the problem |
|
Its the end results of the lockstep thats the problem.
If our party voted in lockstep for the kinds of policies the voters thought they were getting when they gave Congress over to the Dems in 08 that wouldnt be a problem.
Lockstep gets a bad rap because of the pro-corporate policies the GOP rams through while voting in lockstep, which is also why even without the Dems voting in lockstep they arent viewed now as being much better than the GOP in most polls.
