If the US changes the picture on the $50 bill, wouldn't you rather it be Eisenhower

rather than Ray Gun--if it has to be a Republican president?

Personally, I'd rather it be Elvis.

9. Do not give them the idea they can change it. The GOP need to
do something themselves and trying to pull out Reagan
every time we turn around.

Reagan laid the ground work for the mess we are in today
and the GOP pushed it every year since. Thanks Reagan
and GOP.

No I do not wish for a constant reminder of who caused
this pain to our people and our country.

11. He's already had his turn on the money -
The Eisenhower Dollar is a $1 coin issued by the United States government from 1971–1978 (not to be confused with the Eisenhower commemorative dollar of 1990, or the Presidential $1 Coin Program, which will feature Eisenhower in 2015). The Eisenhower Dollar followed the Peace Dollar and is named for General of the Army and President Dwight David Eisenhower, who appears on the obverse. Both the obverse and the reverse of the coin were designed by Frank Gasparro.

If we have to have a Republican, I'd prefer Teddy Roosevelt. Eisenhower's fun and games with the CIA cost us a lot decades later in Iran, cost the Guatemalans even more; he wore his racial blinders as long as possible; one speech doesn't erase the damage his presidency caused.

12. Why not Elvis? Why not MLK? Why not people and events that have been
significant in all kinds of ways to America's history? Labor advances? Cultural contributions? Scientific contributions? Political? Advancing human rights? The numbers don't have to change but why not shake it up a bit and have events & people that reflect the greater expanse of America?

Why not a 1/5/50/100 dollar bill with several different graphics that show the whole of America instead of such a limited group of people?

13. Maybe it should be Jesus.
Why the new bill could depict the Son of God™ swooping down from on high riding a pterodactyl while firing a "modern sporting rifle" into an Afghan wedding party.

Why can't our currency be more religotastic like they had in the bible?

23. They already appear on currency -- coins, anyway
But since Salmon P. Chase appeared on the $10,000 note (try getting change for that one a 7-11), it's not a requirement that the portrait be of a President.

Sort of opens up the floor to any significant American.

27. Ben Franklin and Alexander Hamilton are on bills as well, and they were never Presidents.
I'd like to see FDR... you know, the LONGEST serving US President? Or Teddy Roosevelt... his "Square Deal" was also very progressive.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_Deal

But since Teddy has Mount Rushmore, I'd rather see FDR on the $50

28. What if we deleted the $50?
With so many people making electronic payments, currency by and large is becoming less and less useful.

Eliminate pennies, nickels and round the price of everything to the nearest dime.

Eliminate the $50 -- you can get change (when you need it) in twenties.

30. That's a seperate issue.
People want privacy from the world of electronic payments, so I think we'll always have money. And it's not like the $50 bill costs people anything. In fact, we make a tidy profit on the $50... I think it costs like thirty cents to print one!

It's not like having to maintain some legacy product at a loss, like making software backwards-compatable with Windows 98.

People still use them. I got one as my Christmas bonus this year at work. They're not common, but that's okay.

31. We don't make a profit off printing currency....
That thirty cents is a direct cost to the government, and each note has to be replaced about once every four years. And then there are the costs of creating new bank notes to deter counterfeiting (and the cost to businesses from receiving counterfeit bills), and you're talking about some serious money. Something on the order of $100 million per year just to print and circulate the fifty-dollar bill.

25. Keep it like it is. I would never accept any denomination bill with Reagan on it.
I would just refuse on the grounds that I don't consider it legal tender. I can always take the cash in $20s and $10s or even $100s if it is a large enough amount.

I think they should bring back the $500 with MLK Jr. on it. It is a pain in the ass to move thousands around between banks with cash (which I have had to do from time to time - unfortunately, not often).

34. I'd rather it be Nixon than Reagan
We all know the reason for the exact bill they chose: Ronald Reagan hoovered the federal bank account before he left Washington like some kind of pissed-off spouse, and $50 was all that was left.
