I have been working full time for the past couple years in a job that pays half what I was making and requires about a 10th of my brain space... I have a friend who hasn't worked in his field since 2002 - engineer - and another who took a job folding underwear at a department store (engineer). I think there are a lot of us out here.

5. Just recently re-employed |
|
After a three month lay-off. The biggest difference I noticed this time around was the amount of workers looking for work. In my industry, if you get called in for an interview, you've probably getting an offer. Not so this time around. Employers were able to be much more selective this time around because of the number of people out there interviewing.

6. Employed, miserable, and my perm contract is in 4 months |
|
That is in August (5 mo?) I will probably sign a permanent work contract. um.. yay? I love my job, and what I do, but I feel kicked in the teeth by the company itself so much that im considering leaving to be honest. Mine are truly unique skills, so I have that option M A N Y don't.
that aside, yeah, working, and hiding in Europe (yes I consider myself hiding, im sorry guys)
I want to come back.. but there's nothing there for me =<[br /> -A patriot in exile

14. If I could retire, I'd be ecstatic, too. |
|
I'm of an age where I'm really tired of working, but I'm not yet old enough for social security, don't have much saved, and am not sure if it'll ever be possible.
I'm happy for you, though. :-)

11. Retired - and judging by earlier polls inquiring about age, I'm not alone. |

12. unemployed since 2002 |
|
It was a personal choice. My profession, electronics repair, had turned into a joke. Manufacturers wouldn't provide adequate information to do effective service, I was tired of trying to reverse engineer everything, and employers always wanted more for less.
I spend my time these days taking care of my 89 y/o parents. I'd like to go back to work but there just isn't that much out there.

13. If you are taking care of your 89 y/o parents I would consider that a job |
|
Taking care of 2 elderly parents can be more than a job. I have just my mother and she is a handful.
I admire your dedication.
