Speculation on public trials..in courts.== 9-11 trials.. |
|
I am guessing that public trials would result in some evidence being thrown out because I read somewhere that you cannot use evidence gained from torture. Some document that courts often use, prohibits torture and evidence gained from it. Possibly the fall out from having someone released because of this kind of evidence is the real reason that anyone would use the military tribunals.
Bringing up this torture stuff all over again may be too much for the Obama Administration. Perhaps Holder thinks that the country can handle it, but others may think differently. Just an idea for discussion.

1. Please also consider the security reason |

NYC's mayor, who was once OK with the idea of high-profile trials in the city, is now quite sour on that notion. Surely other cities know the level of congestion and expense these things would entail, and their elected officials know who the citizenry would blame for the chaos that would result.
That's especially true if KSM's buddies try to make an example out of a place that would try one of their own. Any mayor that did not do absolutely everything he could to have prevented the trial from taking place in that town would be complete toast.
Military bases have the high security required to effectively keep order in such a situation.

2. The last thing anyone in DC wants... |

...is for the details of 9/11 to be opened up and explored. And your torture speculation goes hand in hand with that.
