No true progressive would say "I want President Chávez to please understand that even though many people in the United States are critical of our president that we resent the fact that he would come to the United States and criticize President Bush... you don't come into my country, you don't come into my congressional district and you don't condemn my president."

To be an African-American and progressive "leader" and to stand tall for a man who would deny African-Americans the right to vote is the mark of irreperable moral corrption.

1. I believe Rangel and Chavez suck equally.
Bush was worse than both, though.

Am I still a liberal?

2. Charlie doesn't have to defend his Democratic credentials to anyone.
He's a politician and a damned good one. He is NOT a fucking saint which seems to be the current requirement for office.

I cannot believe that you fall for their crap and encourage OUR OWN PEOPLE to railroad another of ours out of office (and our most effective people are the special targets) while allowing corrupt Republicans to go unprosecuted, unpunished, and still voting against us with no fuss.

Do you have to grab the bait every time they throw out a line?

3. For all his faults
Charlie Rangel has done more for the poor, the sick and the dispossessed than the vast majority of politicians ever will.
