Up Or Down. Bring It Home. 6 March 2010
.

The people of USA voted for Democratic members of Congress and a Democratic President to GOVERN. And govern you must.

Bring the major legislative action on Health Care to an "Up Or Down - Majority Rules" vote. Vote it up. Bring it home. Get this going. (The bill to protect health insurance companies is _NOT_ perfect. It is a start. (Keep in mind once this 'pig' gets passed, it is not over. It will only be the beginning!))

Should any piece of Democratic legislation be threatened with a filibuster by any one, the Democratic Party response MUST be "Majority rules, bring it to the floor. Give the piece of legislation an up or down vote."

The members of the Democratic Party have exhausted every possible excuse trying to avoid doing what the people sent them to do. The Republicant Party cannot be used as cover for Democratic Party not governing. No more half-stepping, no more posturing. No more 'sun was in my eyes and it was too dark to see,' - 'the world is flat - no body likes me' excuses.

Govern and the people will support the leadership. Do nothing and the Democratic Party deserves nothing but the people's scorn.

1. A question
Are you willing to pay my "insurance mandate" for me so I won't be forced to give up graduate school to meet this mandate?

2. Pig Is Far From Perfect!
.

The bill as written will take years to re-work to make acceptable. It is the commitment to changing the rotten insurance game, that needs to be begun.

The bill is not perfect. The members of the Democratic Party who put this 'pig' together needs to be held accountable. It is the game in which we find ourselves. The two corporatist parties run the game to their own advantage.

No one said this was going to be easy. The point is to force the Democratic Party to govern for the people.

3. No it won't
It will simply make them the wholly owned subsidiary of the insurance companies. You really think a national private insurance mandate leads to single payer? Especially in this country? No, the only thing it will lead to is higher costs and public anger, perhaps civil disobedience.

And as a more moral question. They want me to pay up to 10% of my gross (which could be up to 15% of after tax) for insurance. But the fine is only 2.5%. And I can't be turned down for pre-existing conditions. So why shouldn't I just pay the fine every year until I get really sick and then take the financial burden of paying insurance? And why shouldn't other Americans as well?

5. Poison Pill
.

No argument, this is not the way to go. There are so many better ways to make health care work _for_ the people and not for for-profit insurance companies. The issue is medical health coverage.

The gibberish about paying for it is designed to kill health coverage. (It is noteworthy to point out that every member of Congress and corporate leadership in USA trying to kill the bill, have got public paid for medical health coverage for themselves and their families.)

The point is to get the Democratic Party to stop dithering. Hold them accountable for passing what they wrote.

6. If they pass an insurance mandate
Republicans take Congress. The reason we've made a resurgence is by running on kitchen table issues. This would give the Republicans a kitchen table issue that they could beat us over the head with and they definitely will try to.

Democratic seats will simply evaporate if this thing passes with a mandate. It is what it is.

7. Hold Accountable
.

Two points,

1. "Democratic seats will simply evaporate if this thing passes with a mandate."
Interests me not in the least. The Democratic Party is in desperate need of reform. Their behavior since the national election has clearly been for corporations and not for people first. Get them on record by voting for legislation and hold them accountable.

2. Republicant Party cannot not make headway with this issue. Again, as bad as the Democratic Party is, the Republicant Party is even in worse shape. They have given so much political ammunition to the Democratic Party to use against them, that they face even bigger losses than the Democratic Party.

8. Great Idea
Edited on Sat Mar-06-10 08:24 AM by BigErnMcCracken
Let's pound through this particular piece of legislation that seems to me to be about the ONLY thing that most Democrats and Republicans alike (and I'm talking about average Joe's here) actually agree on for varying reasons. Let's call it a "work in progress", thereby ensuring it will be bashed, filled with pork, twisted and turned 100 different ways, and also do so on the back of reconciliation. Its' an absolute joke to suggest that in today's climate, AFTER basically ramming a bill through that anyone will be able to change it for the better. And then let the media machine get revved up on that one. It's almost cutting off your nose to spite your face. The time for THIS legislation is over. What the Democrats are doing now is basically saying "look we TOLD you we'd pass it now look at us PASS it!"

Sorry, that's not governing. They had the ability to get this done before and couldn't bring it home. This is just a face saving measure and a bad bill that's destine to divide people further and give anyone with an axe to grind the chance to do it.
