Righteous rant on Craigslist - "I hate what America has become"
Edited on Sat Mar-06-10 09:34 AM by FormerDittoHead
http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/pdx/1442403975.html

I'm thinking this fellow speaks for many of us. Can't get everything right, but this guy hits the target more than he misses.

I hate what America has become

...when 28% of you brain dead fucking morons give a blithering IDIOT like Sarah Palin positive approval ratings and think she ought to run for president in 2012, it really makes me sick to know I am lumbered with that many mouth-breathing Cro-Magnons I unfortunately have to consider as my fellow countrymen....trust me.....I don't. You motherfuckers are beyond help.
...

...AMERICANS have sat on THEIR ASSES while Washington and the Pentagon have BANKRUPTED THE TREASURY and sent our sons and daughters into MEAT GRINDERS in Iraq and Afghanistan for WMD's and connections to 9/11 that did NOT EXIST and even AFTER the overwhelming evidence that the intel was "swept all up" (doctored, falsified, unreliable) you STUPID SHEEP keep buying into the BRAIN DEAD notion that somehow, these wars are for the FREEDOM of America.

You're an IDIOT. They're wars for EMPIRE.
...
You ignorant FOOLS who send shotgun Emails to all your friends warning of "death panels" and other such HEALTH INSURANCE INDUSTRY PROPAGANDA, yes, you friggin' GOMERS actually think the Health Insurance Industry has your best interests in mind, and it's "dat mean ol' gubmint" that wants to penalize you by providing your family health care that isn't profit-based.

MEDICARE only got passed because it effectively REMOVED the highest-risk group to the insurance providers (the elderly) from the 'pool' of prospective insurees, thereby minimizing their financial exposure. It's completely lost on most people that catastrophic illness is the main reason for personal bankruptcy....and that 75% of those who had to file HAD health insurance.

And this is the 'status quo' many of you are defending. You are BEYOND dense.

That's no joke, Sendero. I post on Craig's list Reno and when I slam FAUX NotNews or Redneck Radio or talk about the hypocrisy of conservatives, my posts get yanked.

9. G.O.M.E.R.
It's an acronym, "Get Out of My Emergency Room!" It refers to the Friday night nursing home dump of frail elderly who are demented, incontinent, combative, and rarely ill enough to require a trip to the hospital, only a stay somewhere besides the nursing home on a weekend when staffing is cut.

So yeah, GOMER applies to these fucking SUCKERS for all the bile that spews out of their AM radios.

I think we need to tattoo "CHUMP" on the forehead of any Palin supporter, just so the rest of us have adequate warning either to avoid them or to take advantage of their gullibility.

Critical thinking is seen as heresy these days in so many circles.

12. Yes, I think this is one of our biggest problems...
children are not taught to question or to think critically and anyone who does question authority or think critically is shouted down. And then everyone is encouraged to jump "on the bandwagon" and think the same thing without questioning anything about the subject. And that is a logical fallacy. So, instead of encouraging critical thinking skills, our culture encourages sheep or lemming skills. That does not sound like a survival skill or a culture that could be expected to last for very long.

29. and for that, I blame ...
... not the schools, but religion.

After all, how can the schools teach critical thinking without making most organized religions look like the con-jobs and hate groups that they are?

My kid keeps asking how to fix the world. The only answer I've ever been able to come up with is to require critical thinking in all our educational programs and seriously smarten up the electorate. The rest follows.

31. I agree..sort of..
I agree that much of the hate is the fault of the churches. I do disagree (respectfully) that all religions are con jobs. I like Gandhi's words, "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." Unfortunately, too many people miss the message of love and tolerance that was central to Jesus' message. In fact all of the major religions teach the same common themes. But humans spread the message and things break down there. I put my own Catholic church in that category, too. Yet I believe in the basic theology of my faith even when I have lost faith in my church's leaders.

I also agree that critical thinking is an untaught skill that we all need to possess. Religion encourages blind faith too often -it's said we Catholics are supposed to "pay, pray and obey". But I wonder if people find it just easier to believe what the man on the altar or in the suit said rather than sorting it out for themselves. After all, how hard is it to look up a source on the internet (as Rachel pointed out). I think that we've become lazy as a nation and we have handed over our country to corporate interests...

32. Yep, "critical thinking" has become less and less prevalent...
....in America. This is mostly due to a long-term (decades) political objective by the GOP to sabotage our country's public education system, thus gradually increasing the percentage of those amongst us who could no longer think critically and therefore be far more compliant/receptive to the GOP's brainwashing/hateful propaganda. Yep, those citizens are perfect non-critical thinking, submissive subjects for the Rush Limbaughs/Glenn Becks/Sean Hannitys/Roger Ailes/Karl Roves/Frank Luntzs/Sara Palins, et al, of the current GOP. -- Michael

11. He implied Olbermann is just the other side of Hannity
and that listening to either one is stupid. He loses all points with me for that one. Olbermann is against the same things he is.

Except Olbermann doesn't advocate AIG officials being hanged by vigilantes. I think he would be more likely to advocate arrest, trial, conviction and prison.

Yeah, I expect this rant to be taken down soon.

18. Since we liberals tend to eat our own, a lot of people are quick to try and discredit KO,
Michael Moore and the like as a means of proving that they're not just ideologues like people on the right. I understand the impulse to try and seem above the fray, but you're right, the basic thrust of this letter is very much in keeping with Keith's principles. Obviously there are things he is not allowed to talk about on air since MSNBC is a corporate entity, but I have a feeling that an unfiltered Keith would probably sound a lot like this.

It's an awesome rant, except for equating KO with Hannity. Ironically, KO talks about the exact same things as the author of this rant, and holds roughly the same positions on every point, thus making the author's picking on KO extremely tacky.

52. And he's right because
his point is not to equate Olbermann with lying sack of shit hannity. His point is that the liberal vs. conservative paradigm is a way to waste your energies in the wrong places. Because like he says, BOTH parties sell you down the river for corporations, banks and special interests.

Yes, Olbermann has a good program, sticks to facts and points out bullshit whereas hannity is a ignorant, lying dimwit. But that's not the point here. The point is that the liberal/conservative paradigm is used to divide the people. And both have their respective audiences on the left and right. In that way, Olbermann IS the other side of hannity.

And to say he "loses all points for that one" is, imho, really petty. You're ready to discard and waste the whole message of this post because one paragraph doesn't fit your template of left vs right discourse. He makes A LOT of valid and great points and with your attitude you just proved the one he made in that paragraph.

This is part of the reason why I have lost faith that this country will ever get better. People are either apathetic or lazy. Unless we get more involved in the process (and I mean the masses, not people on DU)and fight back then the country will never improve. It makes me sad for my children.

40. Sure Speaks For Me
I blame the corporate media and particularly Fox for their part in the propaganda (with Fox it's outright lies), I blame a big percentage of US citizens who are too lazy or too gullible or too lacking in intelligence or too wrapped up in TV fluff or some combination of these things to care enough/have the capacity to figure out what's going on. It's not rocket science. The day is over in this readily available info age when anyone can be kept totally in the dark if they don't want to be in the dark.

I fight the urge to go all female Howard Beale every day because I am mad as hell. We all are being shafted and fleeced every day of our lives! We all might as well be just a drugged body providing power like in "The Matrix". When you become nostalgic for the Nixon years you know things are bad. Nixon, as dark and twisted as he was, was well to the left of Clinton and Obama. When you hear some of the things Eisenhower said, you realize he's almost a socialist compared to the DNC these days - and the repukes are 10 times as bad.

I've emailed and called my heart out, I'm now thinking none of that will cause enough change. We have to mobilize in one or a series of mass marches in DC like in the civil rights battle, get back to the take it to the streets mode. We need leaders like Bobby Kennedy or MLK to lead us - Grayson? Weiner? - someone. It's past time to take our country back for the people.
