Sebelius: Bid for GOP support delayed health care
Edited on Sun Mar-07-10 09:54 AM by cal04

Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says health care reform would have been "dead on arrival" if the White House had sent a finished proposal to Congress last year.

The secretary also blames delays in passing the measure on President Barack Obama's having to spend "far too much time talking about what's not in the bill" and trying to counter "wild accusations" by Republicans.

She says it's realistic to expect the administration to keep at it even if the House doesn't act by March 18 — when Obama leaves on an Asian trip.

Sebelius says "conversations will continue" if necessary to overcome the objections of a key House Democrat, Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak, over abortion funding.

1. The GOP never had any intention of giving support.

2. This was never about health care
This was about giving a bailout to insurance companies. One that they'll apparently get.

5. Not. Good. Enough.
They are not stupid people.

ALL of this was 100% predictable. Every bit of it.

It allowed them to block real reform though which is clearly what they wanted.

6. Gee, Ya Think ?. Whatever, By this stage of the game HCR is
now a Vampire and should have a stake shoved through it's blacked corporate heart.

That is unless someone can explain why giving the corporate insurance monopoly
another 70 billion dollar bonanza is good for America.

7. Was diseartened yesterday
when I was turning the dial on the radio looking for the broadcast of the local team's spring training game (on local AM affiliate for the team) and had to spin the dial past all the AM radio hate mongering. In just a couple minutes I spun past diatribes by hosts and listeners outraged about "those global warming types," "Obama's socialist conspiracy to ruin our healthcare," and "the librul media telling lies," and I knew it was almost pointless to turn this tide of brainwashing that has been taking place with growing arrogance over the last couple of decades.

I remembered how the morning after Obama's election one of the cable news channels, had the "economists," already lamenting what to do to counter Obama's ineveitable tax increase attempts, etc. Then came the Cantor/Boner/McConnell press conference announcing that the Repig party would do everything in its power every single day to attack this usurper in the Oval Office and allegedly hold the president's feet to the fire. More like make sure his feet are burned off.

I recalled how suddenly the T.A.R.P. passed in the last desperate days of the previous regime, was now Obama's socialist bailouts of banks and carmakers, etc. Then came August and the plan was put in action full-force, as the recess strategy was then executed in the Town Halls. The last 6 months have been non-stop propaganda by the party of No, the wolf now in new sheep's clothing of the outraged average American embodied in the marketing of Teabaggers, replete with homemade signs with idiotic spelling mistakes and images. Nevermind that this group was never outraged by a surplus transformed into record debt by two illegal wars negative-funded by continuous tax breaks for the top 10%.

The next programs already being rolled out are the attacks across the board on public education, on any attempt to deal with polluters, with gun control and abortion most likely around the corner. This strategy of tension and constant irrational attack on anything proposed by the current administration is so transparent it is hard to tune it out. The constant tending to this "cultural war," assures that almost no meaningful reforms will allowed to take place and this holding patter will prevail until they can run the clock out to the next election cycle. The sides and choices seem pretty clear to me and are becoming clearer every day.

Still, I thought Obama would be more progressive, not so DLC, as he has made it so easy for them to attack. I guess I was naive.

And all I wanted to do was listen to the A's play the Angels in Arizona.

Just my dos centavos
