I don't watch the elitist Oscars |
|
Red Carpet's, limousines, police barricades and gawking celebrity gossip reporters, and a big party that I'm not even invited to.

5. Huh! I don't watch it because it's boring. |
|
All the elitist trappings are why they call it tinsel town. The gowns and tuxes are rented or borrowed. The jewelry is on loan. The limos are rented. Many designers, hair stylists and make-up artists pretty much donate their services because it's good advertising for them. All the police are paid for by us the tax-payers.
IT'S ALL FAKE TO PUT ON A SHOW TO KEEP PEOPLE GOING TO THE MOVIES!

"The Oscar"

Seriously, it was written by Harlan Ellison (a great writer) and is supposed to be ridiculous.

11. I look to see if any of the women are wearing a flattering dress. |
|
Most of them have way too much boobage fallout and wear all sorts of ugly colors and shapes.
The most beautiful and flattering dress I saw was one that Oprah wore, black knit, long sleeved and slinky, with silver and blue sequins around the V neck and shoulders, to draw attention to the cleavage instead of Oprah's weight. It was designed by Bob Mackie.

Who cares who wins, usually the best movies are not even nominated. I like watching movies but award shows are meaningless to me. And as a previous reply said, they are really dull to watch.

30. Here's what I learned from tonight's Oscars |
|
Colin Farrell and Jeremy Renner once slept together. Sandra Bullock kissed Meryl Streep and liked it. George Clooney hasn't gotten laid in a while. Alec Baldwin could never make it as a standup comic. The Academy needs to fire whoever left Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur out of "The late show."

33. It's the Motion Picture Academy, not the Television Academy |
|
In all fairness, Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur were TV actresses, not that that's anything inferior. Bea Arthur made virtually no movies; the few of note are things like "Lovers and Other Strangers" and "Mame". Farrah made a few more, but also VERY few; she, too, was a TV actress.
Of course, this begs the question of including Michael Jackson, since "The Wiz" is hardly a huge body of work, but he DID have many of his songs used in movies, and he was a HUGE star who bridged many media.
AMPAS is effectively throwing itself a party; there's plenty of schmaltz, glitz and outright hogwash, but many honorable attempts at according notice and praise to many who've actually accomplished something DO happen.
