1. They sure got a lot of pubicity out of this, good or bad. Glad it's on
for those who want to watch.

3. Good chance it was Cablevision...
makes no difference who started the fight-- Cablevison would take the blame just because they meet the customers face-to-face. Disney gets a free pass.

And here I thought cable franchises include a clause whereby all over-the-air channels HAVE to be carried.

The greedy cable companies, which, incidentally, have to convert the signal back to the old analog system for customers who haven't gotten a new TV recently, expand the viewership to people like me who can just get a few Connecticut stations on a clear day-- fewer than before the change to digital. So, why do they demand that cable companies which are expanding the broadcast TV market at cable's expense, pay them money for what they give free over the air?

5. Compromise on price about 50/50 maybe
Although terms of the deal were not disclosed, people familiar with the situation said Cablevision would pay 55 to 65 cents per subscriber for WABC. That's not the $1 per subscriber that Cablevision has said Disney initially wanted, but it's also not the 25 cents the cable operator is said to have offered. Typically, these agreements run for several years with the price rising over time.

7. A pox on both their houses
But just in case, I got the 'hillbilly' antenna working just before the Oscars. I call it that because it is made out of a board, some coathangers, and some screws, from a diagram I found on the Internet. Works OK with my digital converter box, but I'm a bit far from NYC to get more than a handful of channels.
