8. I wanted her to win - but what an EGO
I was pulling for her but was surprised she made the comment about the Academy looking beyond the "politics" and seeing the performance. What a slam against the other nominees. But, I'm glad she won.

12. There is truth in what she says
There have been years when a fantastic movie was snubbed because of politics.

Why do we always have to steer clear of the truth?

22. The comment about politics over performance was a slap at the Academy IMHO
and that is why I made the comment.

She has some 'splainin' to do--and the controversy could overshadow her achievement.

Believe me she will be asked over and over what she meant by that and I don't see any answer that will make the remark go over any better than it did tonight.

When she said that all I could think was "ouch."

23. I don't think she'll have explaining to do
There is a lot of pressure to campaign for these awards, and she chose not to. There were a few stories about it during the awards season ...

25. I love me some Gabby. Here is her comment after Chris Rock grabbed
her at the black essence awards.

But she got a shock as she stood up to make her way to the stage - when Rock grabbed her behind with both hands.
Despite shaking off the "Everybody Hates Chris" creator with a playful slap, Sidibe admits her father was furious over the incident.

She tells ETOnline, "As I go up to get my award in a room where my dad is, because he's one of my dates, Chris Rock grabbed my butt with both of his hands - and then I slapped him back. I didn't think too much of it at all, but my dad was super p**sed."

And she quips, "Some dudes gotta have it - it's my own fault for being too damn fine."

She rules. Totally. :)

18. Congrats! Yet no one has yet included Sapphire in the "thank you" speech.
I think it was a very big oversight from the screenwriter.

I believe the screen writer was in shock and did the best that he could ~ wasn't he the first African American to ever win that award?

Spike Lee was nominated for Do the Right Thing but didn't win. I can't think off the top of my head of another African American who was nominated, but I'm probably forgetting someone. But Geoffrey Fletcher was the first to win.

On edit: John Singleton was nominated as well, for Boyz 'n the Hood.

29. I was just thinking screenwriting awards, but
Mo'nique was, I believe, only the fifth African American to win an acting Oscar (after Hattie McDaniel, Sidney Poitier, Denzel, and Halle Berry). I think a few others have gotten nominations for acting, but recognition for directing and screenwriting have been rare indeed.

32. I watched her show~ She had Lee Daniels, Paula Patton, Gabriel
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 12:59 AM by goclark
and Sapphire on ~ it was excellent.

Someone down thread mention that Sapphire didn't get to speak.

When I watch the show, Sapphire sat right next to Lee Daniels and did not say one word, not one.

She cried happy tears, she smiled, she even danced with all the others(really a good dancer) but not a word did she speak.

It didn't seem to bother the others, you can tell that they love her but they don't address any question to her -- is she shy?

I've seen her before on Monique's show and she never said a word on any of the shows.

Has anyone ever heard her say anything?
On edit... I just found a video of her talking and she was fantastic ~ try this link, she is amazing
