Several Cleveland area women over 80 were Bat Mitzvahed today... |

I couldn't find the link at the TV stations web site but I was touched by this in a way I haven't been for a very long time.
I was never very religious and never wanted to get my particular religion's right of passage, Confirmation.
But as I grow older and hopefully a wee bit more mellow, if not wiser, I see examples all around me of the power of religion to give people comfort by identifying and then being part of something greater than themselves.
It's not for me, but I was touched regardless of my lack of faith.
I saw how important this was for many of these women in their so-called golden years. I think it was more about completing their spiritual journey.
Of course it isn't about hedging a bet on heaven because I believe that the Jewish faith isn't about the afterlife but all about this life. It was just heart warming to me.

For all of them, the culmination of a dream.
When they were growing up, the Bat Mitzvah was not done as often as the Bar Mitzvah was for boys.
It touches me too...
Good for them!
