Follow up about the young gay man form NC whose parents and school kicked him out

If you've been following the story of my nephew and the ordeal that he has been through in the past several days, you know that yesterday we returned the car to his parents. The drive was long, but when we got there the family was civil to me and my friend for the most part. It is clear they are very hurt by their sons sexuality. I had an emotional breakdown of my own.

My best friend Dena and I left for North Carolina right around midnight on Saturday morning. We were returning my nephew's car to his parents at their request. I know many here suggested we just leave it somewhere, but we couldn't do that. As far as my sister and her husband knew, we still thought we were picking up some of my nephew's belongings as well. The drive was long, and Dena did most of the drive so I could sleep.

We arrived in less than 11 hours. When I pulled up in front of the house, the circular driveway was full of cars. Upon entering the house, I encountered my despondent sister and her husband. With them were several couples from their church, and a few from their neighborhood. My sister immediately ran to me and hugged me and just burst into tears. She said, "How could this happen to our family?" Several ladies in the room helped me calm her down.

Just by doing a quick look around the first floor of their house, I noticed their oldest son's pictures were nowhere to be found with one exception. His senior picture was sitting on a table by itself with a candle beside it. If I didn't know better, I would've thought he had died in a tragic accident. My sister and her husband are obviously hurt, but their actions were more of grieving for a deceased child as opposed to finding out their child was gay.

1. The actions of this family, his "parents" is unforgivable
he's their SON for god's sake!

A dear friend of mine's mother is very schizophrenic about his sexuality.
she's fine with other people's son's being gay, just not her's!
But she loves and takes care of him (unemployed, on her medical insurance), and that's what's important.

damn the church, damn it to the lowest fucking pit of hell!

3. It is because of situations like these (among a million others)
that I will never stop fighting religion.

It is poison and robs people of their sanity and reason. This young man is being treated like a criminal from those who are supposed to nurture and support him, who are supposed to give him a safe place in this world.

6. Let that brave young man
know he is not alone and he has nothing to be ashamed of. His parents & others are the ones to be ashamed and have lost more than they will ever know by treating him this way. If there is a purgatory or a hell, the parents are the ones that will reside there for what they have done.

Actually you could have saved yourself the time and simply posted the link in your sig line. That tells it all.

BTW not a Christian here. However I think we both can agree these people are scum whatever they profess to believe.

12. After reading the entire article.
I can tell that his parents were clearly homophobic. They have this mentality of a "Get a female" mentality, praying away the gay, and "male homosexuality is a mental illness". Yeah, I can tolerate that bullshit. But when they take away your stuff (criminal conversion), and treat you as dead because you are unable to have female relationships or fake a female relationship? That is unforgivable.

If for some reason that family dares to contact him, if I was him, I would disown them. If they were true Christians, they should love him unconditionally and support him.

16. The saddest thing is
the fact that this happens far too many times all across this country. Thankfully this young man has a good Aunt he can turn to.
