Democrats and Republicans watched over corporate rape of US - journalist
http://rt.com/Top_News/2010-02-09/corporate-totalitarianism-us.html

American journalist and Pulitzer winner Chris Hedges told RT the United States has developed a new form of corporate totalitarianism.

“We have to break the back of the consumer economy,” Hedges said. “70 percent of our economy is driven by consumption. We have to cripple our money flow to the extent that we can build a popular movement that counters the corporate rape of the country that is furthered both by the Democrats and the Republicans – the better off we’ll be. Many people are disillusioned by Obama and quite rightly so. But whether that means that they will take the active step to step outside the system and to fight, that is unknown.”

2. Americans are addicted to consumption..
I don't think this is going to change, addicts rarely change their behavior until forced by circumstances beyond their control.

12. Gadgets. Gadgets. And more gadgets. And the next one is on deck:
The iPad.

Ugh. Laptops aren't enough? Guess not. Now millions will have to have this new gadget. And the lunacy will continue.

17. It's not just gadgets..
Although that's one big thing..

Shoes, clothes and plastic junk among a zillion other things.

I'm stunned at the sheer quantity of clothes my grandkids have and yet my daughter seems to be continuously buying more.. To the point she gives away several garbage bags of kids clothes every year, by no means all of which are outgrown or even particularly worn.

4. Anti-democratic and proposing an overthrow of the current system...hmmm... sounds teabaggish
And from a Russian Anti-American rag to boot.

Nice job finding something that says what you believe in, even if you had to go all the way to Russia to find it.

6. And what part did Journalist have in it happening?
They not only allowed it to happen without reporting on it, they aided it by allowing their product to become propaganda for the corporatist.

15. Actually Hedges has been pretty much out in front of this one for years,
As have a number of other good journalists. The trouble is that they don't get the air time or page space that other, more moderate members of the press get. Thus they are relegated to magazines like the Nation and Mother Jones, or they write books, or their own web space.
