Okla. conservatives debate divorce legislation

snip

Touching on a sensitive issue among conservatives nationwide, the Republican-controlled Oklahoma Legislature is embroiled in a dispute over whether lawmakers should remain focused on the state's budget problems and other fiscal priorities or delve into family issues, especially the state's chronically high divorce rate.

Republican members proposed three pieces of legislation imposing new regulations on marriage and divorce in Oklahoma. Two of the measures were defeated, but another — requiring counseling for those planning to wed, and therapy sessions for couples considering divorce — is awaiting action.

1. Ah Oklahoma, where the entire delegation voted to ban gay marriage in the Constitution
Nice to know the state with such a high divorce rate is out there protecting the sanctity of marriage from those homos.

2. Pretty soon they will outlaw divorce there. Legislating those things, counseling and therapy, is
creepy.

4. Creepy? It is down right socialist. To think that the state would dictate an individuals decision
Soicalism is coming to Oklahoma, I tell you.

9. Big government
Health care run by the government is bad, but legislating marriage and divorce is perfectly fine. Conservatives don't want less government, they only want to change where it's focused.
