Cheeseburger and "Taco Night" flavors pulled back amid salmonella fears

Procter & Gamble Co. has recalled two versions of Pringles chips because of concerns about potential Salmonella exposure.

The Cincinnati-based consumer products maker says the Cheeseburger and "Taco Night" versions of the snack are being recalled. The company is offering replacement coupons or refunds.

P&G says the two varieties represent only one-half of 1 percent of Pringles U.S volume. The company says there have been no reports of illnesses.

5. I don't trust food corporations to handle radioactive materials safely.
Their record with Salmonella contamination (it's a FECAL pathogen, for pete's sake!) does not inspire confidence in their meticulousness to detail.

8. but you trust them to control the level of pathogens on your food through more ineffective methods.

irradiate and put a sticker on the food. then everyone else who doesn't understand irradiation can get food poisoning and i can buy food that's safe.

11. I also don't trust the corporations to protect their slave labor from radiation.
Of course, I buy very little processed food, and I don't expect my produce to be sterile. I'm just peeved at the gross fecal contamination that is obviously going on that signifies cost-saving shortcuts and lack of attention to safe food handling, all to increase profits.

6. I found the problem on the Salon story
Basic Foods in Las Vegas makes "flavor-enhancing textured vegetable protein"--probably something like Morningstar Farms pseudomeat but ground extremely fine. The FDA found salmonella on Basic Foods' equipment, so everyone who used this TVP has been advised to recall whatever it's in.
