Is there a warrenty on Roofs? We got ours totally replaced in 2008 |
|
because of hail and storms the year before.
Today it is raining a LOT and we noticed that in our garage, it is leaking. Again.
<sigh>
I am going to call the roofer tomorrow and let him have it.

3. Generally but it may be only a one-year warranty |
|
But check the papers. I had the roof on my old house done. IIRC, the warranty was for a year.

20. Shingle warranties generally run |
|
20+ years. However, there are several stipulations involving the installation of them.

21. Installation errors are usually separate from "how long the material lasts". |
|
And if there really is a defect in the way the roof was installed, you almost certainly have recourse, even after two years. On the other hand, if it was just something like ice damming, you probably don't have any recourse except to make additional repairs or modifications.
Meanwhile, the materials warranty on a lot of roofing is 25 years.

5. It might not be the roof per se that's leaking.. |
|
I had a house with a vent on the end of one gable and under heavy rain and wind conditions enough rain would blow in the vent to show up on the ceiling..
Keep in mind also that where the water shows up on the ceiling can be some distance from where it's actually coming in.

6. its probably not his fault |
|
Go look at it and get a ladder. Maybe a window is open or cracked or a vent is open.

9. if you bought a decent roof from a reputable contractor then you |
|
probably have a fifteen or 20 year limited warranty. otherwise, you learned a lesson.

The contractor should warranty workmanship for a period of time. Typically from 90 days to a year. It should be clearly stated in your contract. If not then you are at the mercy of the contractor.
The roof materials have a separate warranty. This is something you typically pay for and requires the installation be performed by a contractor approved by the roof supplier. Or inspected by a third party when installed.
Good luck

I can't imagine only 2 years later it leaking. That would be a shoddy job, to say the least.

15. Most shingle companies have warranties. However, your warranty with your roofer is whatever you and |
|
he negotiated. Everybody makes their own deal.

17. My brother owns a roofing company. |
|
Just call your roofer. They will have no problem, usually, diagnosing where the problem is and fixing it. Most decent roofing companies do this without a qualm. They stand by their work. And they should.
