Anonymous senior official: White House "increasingly convinced" it cannot try KSM on civilian court
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 09:15 AM by angelicwoman
AP, 3-9-2010:

"A senior administration official says the U.S. still hopes to put some Guantanamo Bay detainees on trial in U.S. civilian courts.

The official says the White House is increasingly convinced it cannot try accused Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in civilian court, as originally planned.

But senior aides are trying to craft a deal with lawmakers in which Guantanamo detainees are brought to the United States, some to face trial in federal court and others, like Mohammed, are charged in military commissions.

The official is speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss internal deliberations."

1. And empire will do what an empire will do
when will it finally sink in?

As long as we are a (dying) Empire, we will increasingly go down the rabbit hole.

2. Is it because the US waterboarded KSM 183 times in one month?
That sure would go over good with juries. :sarcasm:

3. That would be every four hours roughly
One would think that 100 times would have sufficed.

It is simply amazing that our politicians can bellow with thundering conviction that America has the best, most fair justice system in the world in one breath and then offer that it is not sufficient in this case. A whole new legal system must be created to address the criminals that carried out a terrorist attack.

The fact is that trying these guys in civilian courts would undermine the "everything changed" marketing campaign after 9/11.
