Pope's brother linked to new claims of child abuse by clergy

Fresh allegations emerge over Bavarian school where Georg Ratzinger led choir for 30 years

By Jerome Taylor, Religious Affairs Correspondent

Tuesday, 9 March 2010

A series of allegations in Germany and Holland have plunged the Catholic Church into a renewed crisis over how it has dealt with child abuse after it emerged that the Pope's brother ran a renowned choir at the centre of some of the latest claims.

Reports of systematic historical abuse by clergy have surfaced at three schools in the Regensburg diocese in Bavaria. One of them is the much-heralded Regensburger Domspatzen, a thousand-year-old male choir and boarding school, whose choral master for 30 years was the Pope's older brother, Georg Ratzinger.

Monsignor Ratzinger has agreed to testify in any eventual prosecutions – but says that he knew of no abuse. And last night the German Justice Minister, Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, joined a growing chorus of politicians in Berlin to criticise the church over its attitude to the investigation, accusing Catholic institutions of a policy of secrecy.

1. Can you impeach a Pope?
Rhetorical question, pretty sure you can't? But it would be nice to.

2. The official line is that he is annointed by god, and is in the job for life.
Not the greatest PR for the catholics, though - and I think this is discovery just getting started.
Media smells blood.

4. Besides, it's the College of Cardinals who appointed him, and they
would be the ones to get rid of him, and from all I've heard, they think fascism is just fine and dandy.

18. Careful -
my daugther sings to our pet rats every night before she goes to bed - and they seem to like it. Of course it might also be the treats she feeds them as she is singing.

11. Rant...
...I absolutely detest the RCC. I have a friend ~~ now age 70 ~~ who as a child (age 5 - 6 years) was repeatedly sodomized by one of the sick kiddie diddler priests. He told and guess what happened? He got fucking punished for lying about Father So and So -- and left to be raped over and over again by this POS priest. Years of alcoholism, failed marriages, fucked up relationships with his children and finally, he got revenge ~~ he got a settlement (a huge one) in one of the suits against the RCC. For the last few years after the truth finally came out and it was admitted -- he is a new person. But for over 60 years, he was told that he fucking LIED about being raped by that M/F priest. It was NEVER about the money with him -- it was only about the truth finally being told.

These RCC bastards are rich, sick assholes who hide child abuse of the worst kind. If there is a hell -- may they rot there for all eternity. And...prior to that hell -- let them rot in prison.

JMHO

13. That's what they were all told.
Everywhere in the world they were told that Father such-and-such would never do such a thing, and the kids got punished for 'lying' and left to the priests.

Nobody talked about it publically, and kids thought they were the only ones with the problem.

14. Yep...
...exactly. And they were left as totally unprotected victims. I saw pictures of my friend when he was that age. We are talking about a truly beautiful child. Golden curls, huge blue eyes and a smile to die for. Yep, like others, he was told to stop lying about the Father who was diddling him.

Fuck I hate those bastards!

20. I wouldn't say "diddling." I'd say "raping"
because that's what those bastards did to countless children.

That is one sick, corrupt Church. It's all about riches and power with the Vatican.

15. All the people covering up the scandal will be given high positions in Rome
After all, that's what they did with that pig fucking bastard "Cardinal Law". He should be in prison with the rest of the Church leadership. They knew, The hid it, They moved pedophiles into positions where they could fuck children OVER AND OVER. They are criminals and should never see the light of day. Yet there they are, sitting on golden thrones, living the good life, without so much as a thought to the destroyed lives they left behind.

22. Good grief
So glad I decided that the Catholic Church deserved no place in my life. The people who defend/rationalize/justify this are also beneath contempt. Many family members of mine included. :(
